Offline search
Quote from Neo9686 on 11.06.2020, 13:34Hi, new to the forum but not to the app. First of all I want to say thank you to Guido because this app really is the best I saw for motorcycles riding navigation.
I use the app 99% with my own GPX routes that I create on MyRouteApp so this is a minor issue in my case, but yesterday I used it in my car to test it in a normal navigation scenario (search a street address and go), but the app couldn't find the address... strange, I have updated offline maps and a premium account, can't see why it behaves like this... Then I restarted the phone to force it to regain LTE connection and it worked like a charm (sometimes my iPhone does not really find the connection even if it say so). I am wondering now if the search needs the connection not only for the POI search (shops, restaurants, google results etc...) but for the normal addresses too? It seems strange to me, can you confirm that when you download the offline maps you are actually downloading just the maps and not the addresses? I'd like to know this before I rely to Scenic's offline navigation in places with bad or zero connection. If this is the case I'll put by it's side a second navigation app just to be sure that I have a way to get somewhere that I didn't plan before the ride.
Thank you very much for the help, and excuse me for the newbie question.

I believe Scenic thinks you are connected and thus uses online search. Try switching to Airplane mode and then searching.
A bit more info if you like:
Offline search means Google and Apple search is turned off and for OpenStreetMap results it will now switch to searching the offline packages in stead of going online. In other words, when a connection is detected, the offline packages are NOT utilised for search (for navigation they are utilised even if connected).
Now, I think your phone IS connected (or so it seems), but there is no internet connection. Scenic doesn't know that...it only checks for actual connection. Think of it as being connected to a WiFi, but the wifi does not provide internet.
Let me know if this is not it and you need more help.
Cheers,
Guido

Quote from Neo9686 on 11.06.2020, 14:31Thank you Guido, this explains a lot. Yes, it was exactly my thought. I don't know why, but my iPhone sometimes does exactly what you say, it behaves like a pc does when you have a connection but the DNS doesn't resolve anything.
So you confirm that normally Scenic switches from Online to Offline mode if there is no connection, and behave like it did to me because of the iPhone momentary "confusion". Good, this does make sense, unlike yesterday.
Thank you, I know what to do and why now if it happens again 😀

Quote from Barkinmadd on 07.03.2024, 09:45Resurrecting an old thread. For Scenic 3.54, even with airplane mode and wifi turned off on my iPhone, the location search does not seem to return anything, even when the restaurant or gas station is visible on the offline map.
I’ll keep trying… maybe there’s something I’m doing wrong.
Add - I’m wrong - it does work but it seemed that the first time I used the search there was a delay that made it look like the location was not found. All good.
