OFFLINE MAPS UPDATES
Quote from blackhawk1618 on 29.03.2025, 14:04Hello Guido
I have noticed that Scenic app offline maps have not been updated in months. I regularly update OpenStreetMap (OSM), but those changes does not seem to make it into Scenic. If I am not mistaken, the last offline maps update was sometime in mid-February.
One of the main reasons I am asking since OSM does not always have complete data, especially for road speed limits which is very crucial for safe riding. I have been working hard to manually updating those for my region over the past few months, but Scenic isn’t picking them up. How often do the offline maps get updated? Is there any way to increase the update frequency, or do you have plans to let users choose how often they receive updates?
Also, it would be helpful if Scenic logged the dates of offline map updates so users can see when the last update occurred.
Looking forward to your response.Thanks!

Quote from Guido on 29.03.2025, 14:38Scenic uses a :rd party routing framework. That framework provider is also the one that provides the map updates. Typically this is once per month. However they are working on a solution for the “overestimation of route duration” problem which is connected to generating the offline map packages. That’s why it’s taking a bit longer than normal I suspect. I’ve asked them for a status update beginning of this week, but have not heard back yet.

Hi @guidomm
I would like to revisit this topic, as I have noticed that the offline maps are not updating very frequently. I regularly make multiple updates to OSM each week to ensure road information and speed limits are accurate in my region. While these changes appear almost immediately on OSM, it seems that the updates take much longer to be reflected in Scenic’s offline maps sometimes more than a month.
Is there a way to manually trigger or push an offline map update, rather than waiting for the automatic update cycle?

Quote from Guido on 24.02.2026, 14:03I'm afraid not. As soon as the map provider has taken a new OSM extract and made it available, Scenic will display the yellow bar in the offline maps screen saying that an update is available. So... best you can do is check there regularly.
I don't want to give a notification if a map update is available, nor do I want add an auto-update feature, as then everyone would update at the same time, overloading the map server of our provider, making map updates fail and/or make them really slow.

Quote from blackhawk1618 on 24.02.2026, 14:09Do we have any log or anything how frequently the OSM map extract is available or when it was last updated.

Quote from Guido on 24.02.2026, 14:11Again, I'm afraid not. The map provider doesn't release anything about this. They've said to me they typically take an extract every month.
The best thing I can recommend is to check the offline maps screen frequently. If an update is available, it will show the yellow bar at the top, with the "update" button.

Quote from Guido on 24.02.2026, 19:27It only shows when an update is available.
Side menu > profile picture > offline maps. It will show a big yellow bar at the top when an update is available. You can’t miss it.

When I saw this thread earlier today it prompted me to check for updates. However, I was running around in circles trying to find the off-line maps menu. I then posted a question in here asking where it was. Shortly after, I found it, under the profile menu.
The help page doesn't tell you where it is. Perhaps it can be updated?
Anyway, after I found it I deleted my post. Now I'm back here and see that you've shown us how to check for updates.
So, with that in mind, could map updates have its own menu option under Settings?
Thanks.

I agree that the Offline Maps option would be better placed in the Main Menu instead of under Profile. Also, having Special Offers right above Settings is a bit confusing and I have accidentally tapped it several times because it feels a bit like clickbait. 😀
