Offline Maps on smartphone due to bad network conditions

So my most wanted feature (beneath an Android version, so I could replace my iPhone with a cheap outdoor smartphone) was the possibility to download the complete map of a chosen country, so I get more independent from the quality of the cellular network.

Don’t think this is due to bad network connection. Scenic uses offline calculations (assuming you had the Scotland offline map installed).
Rather it’s mostly likely a missed via point or via point that was you did not get close enough of.
