Nova Scotia: Many roads disappear completely when zoomed out a little

Here in relatively unpopulated Nova Scotia, a lot of roads, especially good motorcycle roads, are tertiary roads (what the province calls "Routes", vs Trunks and Highways). They're shown as thin grey lines on the map.
The other day I was riding a planned route and came across a washout from the big rainstorms we had recently so I had to edit the map on the fly, and whenever I zoomed out enough to see any towns, I couldn't see any roads anymore. It made it hard to figure out how to get from where I was to where I was going.
Is there (or could there be) a way to set the map's "sensitivity" for hiding roads when you zoom out? I know you can change colors and make road lines thicker, but that doesn't seem to help when Scenic decides not to show the road at all.
