New user totally struggling
Quote from Canyonblaster on 25.01.2026, 01:13Hell Guido and all! Very excited to use Scenic for my upcoming motorcycle visit to the S CA area. I think I have done the download, install, and paid for a subscription. I am totally failing trying to use the app. All of the video tutorials I can find don't look anything like my version. I am finding it incredibly difficult to use. Where is a current tutorial? Thx!

Quote from johansw on 25.01.2026, 02:32Many tutorials are made with previous version, but look at them as the “system, logic and priciples” mostly are the same.
If you know somebody using Scenic, why not plan a route together through Teams or some similar service?
Scenic has a steep learning curve, bur believe me, it is worth the extra effort 😊👌

Quote from Guido on 26.01.2026, 11:20A good video to start is the "Scenic in 10 minutes" video ( https://scenic.app/help/scenic-in-10-minutes/ ) and the "Power Planner" video (https://scenic.app/help/power-planner-tutorial/ ).
Indeed they are not 100% up to date. It looks a little bit different (no too much), but most of the functionality has not been changed. And of course, if you have any specific questions, please let me know. I'll be happy to answer however I can.
I'm still planning to update the videos, but with so much things going on at the moment I have not gotten around to that yet.

Quote from mattsz on 26.01.2026, 14:21@canyonblaster, this is the single biggest gripe I have with Scenic.
It's so capable and configurable... which is very good, but the complexity that comes with these things can be frustrating. Official instructions/videos are few and far between - but that's because Guido spends most of his time and effort working on the app, and helping his users with questions and problems. His level of response to customers is remarkable... do your best with the resources mentioned, and take him up on his offer to answer questions, he will respond! As will other helpful members here...

Quote from Zoomer on 31.01.2026, 16:50Hi @canyonblaster,
Welcome. I've been a Scenic user for a few years, and though I prefer it overall, it is not without some challenges. I've had a few screaming in my helmet or in my car moments, I can tell you. Getting routes planned is not the work of a moment unless you are really just looking for directions to a destination, but then you can use any mapping app.
I have two ideas. One is to let us know where you are in the process; it is a 'where and how do I begin' or is it a more specific issue that is destroying your brain? Then maybe we can help. I know that once I plan a route, I have to go over it carefully, adjust waypoints/ Via points, and not just assume that I'm getting the route I want. Also, trying the route adjustment settings is useful, and then checking the route again. For example, I found a funny/ annoying / perplexing thing where the scooter setting gave a completely different route to the motorcycle setting. Really.
And as @mattsz notes, the current version has icons and a layout that is different from the tutorial videos, and that has created some grief for me.
The second idea is wild and crazy. I don't know if there is a PM system on this forum, but perhaps a way for members to communicate directly would allow people like me to contact people like you, and we could even (gasp) have a telephone call. I'm in Vancouver Canada, so probably in a similar time zone. I'd be happy to have a chat and see if I can be of any help. Maybe I can, or perhaps I won't know the answers. I've used Scenic in Canada, the US and Europe, so I've been up and back and around the cloverleaf a few times, I can tell you. A couple of years ago, I spent and hour -no lie- between the Rome airport and a hotel 4 km away. (turns out Scenic was correct and I was a fault/ stupid/ didn't believe my instruments/ convinced I knew better etc.
Its a really good app, so give it a bit of a chance.

Quote from Jimmy999 on 03.02.2026, 23:01I've ridden 700hours with it apprently. I love being on a multi day road trip, having a beer and reviewing the day in scenic and plotting/adjusting the next day. Riding with it is brilliant. but there are a couple of setting to make it work in a way so you dont need to pull over and press anything.
I've tried all of the nav apps and this is the most bike focused, easiest route planning one out there. In my opinion.
Tell us what you're struggling with and post up some screenshots if you can. I am sure we can help.

Quote from oldNNtheway on 17.02.2026, 07:48Late here as usual. I’m long timer with Scenic and I have off-center requirements from nav aids. Scenic is the only one (tried them all) that even comes close. It’s very high performance and necessarily complex.
Garmin is like routine service on my 1949 Ford tractor. Scenic is like routine service on my 1998 4 valve Ducati.

Over 30 minutes, touching on just about every screen including navigation, detour behaviour, the web app, Google Maps import and more.
