New Maps not as precise as before
Quote from uai on 27.12.2021, 04:30Hello, I was just planning my new year's ride and came into problems.
One of the Advantages of living in the Black Forest and using scenic was that I was able to plan my route on even the tiniest roads (legal to be driven).
Now after the updates (Maps&app) scenic is not planning the routes anymore as it did before.
Examples (these were just the first three I stumbled upon)
- 48.376669, 8.517335 (48°22'36.0"N+8°31'02.4"E) this road is legal
- 48.375164, 8.492544 (48°22'30.6"N 8°29'33.2"E) is not a dead-end the road continues
- 48.286715, 8.348568 (48°17'12.2"N 8°20'54.8"E) is not a dead-end the road continues
The least would be to add a possibility to "override" wrong routing there or make the maps better (as they were before) the way it is now it's not satsfying.
CheersUli

Quote from Guido on 27.12.2021, 04:33Hi Uli,
I'm afraid there's not much I can do about this. Scenic 3 uses another map provider. In some areas this is more precise, in others it is not. The only way to resolve these errors is to report them to the map provider. When you do that, these errors will be processed and incorporated in a next version of the map. Map versions appear every 2 months. Here is how you can report these errors: https://scenic.app/help/roads-not-on-the-map-errors-in-the-map-data/
I realize this is probably not the answer you were hoping for, but I hope it at least explains.
Best regards and happy holidays,
Guido

how about a functionality to just add a straight line (offroad) between two points without exporting and re-importing as track.

This is unfortunately not as easy as it sounds. Effectively this would mean having two routes / routing modes separated by a straight line. But it doesn’t end with two routes.
Effectively what you would want is to have a seperate routing mode between via points. E.g between start and via 1: fast, between via 1 and 2: curvy, between via 2 and 3: staight line (no routing and no instructions) etc.
as you might imagine this would be a very structural change. One that unfortunately is not supported by Scenic map and routing provider for now.

I am (or have been) a long time user of scenic and I've used it extensively (top 1000 world users). I've also organised several vintage car rallyes where I've used scenic as the method of navigation for the group and have promoted scenic as something "I can't hink of anything better for that purpose". But I wanted to inform you that I really cannot use the here maps. When I open one of my routes with the new maps they're destroyed. Ok I live in an area where we have tiny little roads and those are the ones that I prefer to drive. And this is where HERE Maps isn't up to par. I do understand that this is not your fault and that I am able to add content to the HERE maps but this is on a scale that it would make a fulltime job if I had to do 40 km radius of my home.
So you've lost me as a long time user. When there is a method of using a different map database I'd try again.
CheersUli
