Navigation Appearance Option "System"
Quote from LarsG on 06.05.2025, 14:39Hello,
first of all: Thanks to Guido and the team for a great app, which now with the map styles again very much meets my requirements. I use the app exclusively for planning my week.
I would like to request a change to the navigation look and feel. At the moment you can choose Sunset <-> Sunrise, Light, Dark.
Would it be possible to add a "System" option like in the general appearance in addition to the 3 existing ones? That way I could easily switch between Dark Mode and Standard Mode on my phone. I like to use Dark Mode not only after sunset but also on very bright days because the contrast is easier to see and it can save some battery charge on OLED displays.
Thanks, Lars

Quote from Guido on 06.05.2025, 14:43That’s not possible because the appearance doesn’t change automatically while the iPhone is on. Try it. But appearance change to 2 minutes from now, start a navigation session and watch the appearance NOT change at the set time. Only once you lock the iPhone and unlock the appearance changes.
Obviously that doesn’t work for a navigation app that’s always on the foreground while navigation, sometimes around sunset/sunrise. That’s why Scenic has “navigation appearance (which can be set to sunset/sunrise).

Quote from LarsG on 07.05.2025, 01:16Sorry for creating confusion. I did not want to change day/night setting. I was looking for an option so that the navigation setting reacts to the dark mode button just like the planning view does. In the planning view this option is called „system“. While in planning view the dark mode button (in my case in the iOS control center) instantly switches to the dark view of the map, this is not implemented in Navigation view. There it is only possible to wait for sunset or hard locking in the dark mode.

Quote from Guido on 07.05.2025, 06:01I understand what you mean. Indeed when you switch appearance manually through the control center this does happen immediately in planning mode.
I understand that you would also like that to work in navigation mode.
The answer is more or less the same I’m afraid. I can’t link navigation appearance to system appearance for above mentioned reason. If I would link it, the automatic appearance switching would also be linked (it’s the same appearance setting you change with control center).
In other words, if I would make it possible what you are suggesting, then you would loose the automatic appearance switching.

but thank you for looking into it!
