Navigate to??
Quote from Iom_dave on 16.10.2024, 04:58Hi,
I have been using Scenic for years and have always loved it, I am struggling with the recently upgraded version.
I am sure the old version, used to have a button along the lines of "navigate to", which I don't seem to be able to find in the new version. The closest that I can get to to this is "edit route", but then you have to set a start and finish location to start the navigation off.
I am also finding the search feature for the location to be next to useless, for example I want to navigate to London, so you put this in the search field, and I get 31 options, most of which are no where near London, but just place names containing the word "London", whereas on any other navigation system, it would give you the option of the London City Centre as the first option. This make is impossible to make quick changes to your destination.
Am I missing something??
Thanks

The search can definitely be improved. I'm working on that.

Quote from Iom_dave on 17.10.2024, 02:47sorry guide,
I must not have explained myself very well. my comment is not regarding how to get to the start of a planned route, but how to set a new destination quickly and easily.
As an example, I am using scenic to track my route, and then I decide I need to use scenic to navigate me to a destination without stopping the existing tracking. I think in the old version, I simply went to set destination, or navigate to (something like this), but now it appears that you have to go into edit route (even though I don't have a route set), and set a start point (i.e. my current location!), and a final destination to kick the navigation off. It all seems very complicated compared to what it used to be like, and definitely not something you can do whilst riding.

Quote from Guido on 17.10.2024, 06:36There is a bug at the moment, where you need to also set the start point in this scenario. This should not be necessary. It should take your current location as start.
For the rest, it takes one tap extra (there used to be a search button where the edit route button is now). I think that’s an acceptable tradeoff given that you get full power plan functionality during navigation now.
You should be doing none of this while riding 🙄

Quote from Iom_dave on 17.10.2024, 10:08Hi Guido,
Sorry, I am not trying to be difficult or awkward, but I think I must be missing something, as trying to navigate to a simple destination seems to be very cumbersome now.
By the way, when I say making changes whilst I am riding, it is not while I am moving, but when stopped. It is just with all the extra stages, when it is raining and your touch screen is not very responsive, it is very challenging to set a new destination especially when you have to zoom in and out with two fingers to complete the process!!
Here is how I am currently setting the navigation, can you tell me whether I am missing something, or this is as it is designed to work.
- go to search, enter London. Search returns 31 options, I find the one on the map that I think best fits, then click "add to route
- a purple line is then added to the map, but London is still not set as a destination, so guidance does not start. The cross hairs (target) goes to a random location on the map.
- I have to zoom in to move the cross hairs to the end of the purple line so that I can set it accurately as the destination
![]()
- I then have to take myself back to my current location so that I can set the start of the route
- only then does the guidance start.
I find it hard to believe that this is how you have designed the system to work, but if this is the case, I will not say anymore.
thanks and regards,
David

Quote from mattsz on 17.10.2024, 10:52Interesting. David, when I follow your workflow of step 1 - search for a location, tap it on the map by number, then tap the "add to route" button, the route that appears on my screen does include the "finish-line" flag destination marker at the selected location.
And, it uses my current location as the start point... even though it doesn't add the green flag starting marker...

Quote from Dae on 17.10.2024, 11:29@iom_dave I notice in your step 2, after you add the searched for address, that you see the full “planner” icons, such as setting start and end of route. I don’t get this. After I click on the number by the search result and then click “add to route” I’m returned to the main screen. This has the purple line, and from there I simply click “Ride” for full navigation:
Click “Search” and get results returned. In this example click on “1”
Click “Add to route”
Returned to the main screen where I just click “Ride” and get full navigation. The black box is just me covering up parts of the map for the screenshot

Quote from Guido on 17.10.2024, 11:40@dae... the difference is that @iom_dave is doing this during an active tracking session.
So... @iom_dave... at step 2 you should already see the destination flag. This is the bug I was talking about which I will fix. Once fixed, you can simply tap the back button top left, and then the close button after which navigation will start.
