My Scenic Experience

My background:
- I work in the ICT sector, so I know about the complexitiy of building applications, and for sure to support Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
- I am also a member of a cabrio club, and every month we ride a tour of about 150 km in Belgium and/or the Netherlands, with several 'stops'.
- I also 'experiment' with multiple route navigation apps, to find out what they can offer: Scenic, MyRoute-App, Sygic, TomTomGo, OSMAnd, RouteYou.
I like the MyRouteApp planner a lot, because it offers comparison of routes against TomTom, OSM and Here maps.
As some of our co-riders use Garmins, Android smartphones, iPhones, it is ideal to know that our route 'supports' as many devices as possible.
I used the MyRoute Navigation App many times, it is pretty stable on Apple Carplay, but unstable on Android Auto.
Last weekend, I decided to use the Scenic app for the complete route in the Ardennes of 150km, although I already used it for smaller trips of 40 to 50km.
So I used Scenic with Apple Carplay, and it just worked flawlessly.
We had several stops, after a stop you just re-enter into the car and restart the engine, Scenic asks to 'Resume the Navigation' and we are up and running.
What a relief ! The automatic zoom worked perfect, the Waypoint info appears on Time, no lagging of postion cursor.
The custome maps layout is just perfect.
And that developed and maintained by what I would say a 1-person army, I can only say 'RESPECT' !
And of course it misses some features such as speeding camera's and traffic info, but for me, stability is crucial.
I can only hope that the Scenic Android version, and especially the Android Auto version will be there soon with the same functionality and stability as the iOS version.
