Map Style on ottocast carplay doesn't match iphone app setting
Quote from Frstrm on 03.02.2024, 20:10Hello,
I recently purchased an ottocast and attempting to use the carplay feature for the first time.
The map view ( style ) on the ottocast screen ( satellite ) doesn't match the map style on my iphone app ( Day ).
IF I change style's on the iPhone, the carplay doesn't update to match. Is this a known carplay limitation, or am I missing something?

- CarPlay will always use the default map style that you set for Light and Dark appearance. It will not use the "Select temporarily" map style.
- CarPlay will ONLY switch to another map style if your CarPlay system switches between dark and light appearance
- Note that CarPlay's Dark and Light appearance typically does not follow the Dark/Light appearance of your phone. It follows your car's dark/light mode appearance. If you have a car that turns on headlights automatically in low-light situations, it's probably linked to that.
- For 3rd party stand-alone CarPlay units like your ottocast, these have a software setting / switch tu turn the units in dark or light appearance. Maybe there are sophisticated units out there that have an ambien light sensor. Don't know. With my chines unit, I can change between dark and light appearance through the little moon/sun icon top right.
So, if you want e.g. hybrid maps, you'll need to set the default map for Light or Dark appearance to Hybrid, before you connect it to CarPlay.

How much of that was a result of me messing around with settings is unclear at this point. But I was able to get Ottocast to set the style I wanted now.Thank you for taking the time to investigate!
