Map server bug?
Quote from cgriell on 15.10.2024, 23:39I read on a Facebook post than a user planned a route, then navigated it, and the result was that the navigation at a certain point deviated from the planned route. This seems not a Scenic 4.0 fail, but of the map server Scenic uses. This is an important issue, because if it is the case, then this is a major problem that Scenic cannot fix.
For the moment, I stick to version 3.66 (I tested V4.0 and went immediately back). My plan was to stick to V3 until it ceased to work and then decide what to do, either to keep Scenic in version 4.xx or dump it and use a different app.
Now, if really the issue is with the map provider, it is clear that Scenic will not be able to sort out the issues in less than several months and it this case, I will look elsewhere. It would be a shame, because I love Scenic since 2018, during several months I was 1st in the ranking of users, and it will be a difficult (technical as well as sentimental) move.
I did not want to write my question in the Facebook Scenic group, because the position of the zealots is: "if you do not like Scenic, leave". So, I write down my question here:
"Anyone knows if the reported issue: "navigation does not follow the track" is a Scenic bug, or a Map Server bug? or maybe a one-time, non-repetitive fail?

Quote from Guido on 16.10.2024, 06:18Without knowing the details, this is most likely caused by route recalculations / detour behaviour. The first version of Scenic 4 was quite buggy around this. v4.02 (out now) is already a lot better. The next version will bring more improvements. As you might have read, we were under quite some time pressure to get Scenic 4 ready. If not, here's more info: https://scenic.app/scenic-4-faqs/
Actually, it was Scenic 3 where a planned route could sometimes become different during navigation (because there were differences in online and offline calculation engine). In Scenic 4, there are no differences, so routes will always be the same, unless you deviate from them of course.
If you have a Scenic 3 planned route, it might become different in Scenic 4. I recommend to check Scenic 3 planned routes in Scenic 4, before you go out.
