Map Orientation in CarPlay mode
Quote from Marts on 19.07.2024, 00:15Today I noticed something. I went for a drive. CarPlay active and Scenic on the car's screen.
I wasn't following a route or anything, just in map display mode which follows your location. I noticed that "North Up" was fixed and couldn't be changed. So, if I was driving south the map was going "backwards" if you get my drift.
As soon as I tapped on "Start Riding" or gave it a destination the map would then orient itself so your direction of travel is up and the compass worked normally.
Is this normal behavior for Scenic and other nav apps?
I didn't get the chance to test it with Google Maps the only other navigator app on my iPhone.
And I didn't try it with only the phone (ie. no CarPlay). This is more a question on CarPlay behavior.
It's no big deal, more curious about it than anything, as the app is only open for actual route following or if I want to create a route to share (via "Start Riding").

Quote from Guido on 19.07.2024, 07:09This is normal behavior indeed. The main screen is not really meant for driving around. The same is true on iPhone.
Hiwever I understand that this can be confusing in CarPlay as you sometimes just connect to CarPlay, and you’d like to drive around with the map visible, without recording the ride. I’ll see if I can change something about this.

Thanks Guido. I was just curious. No need to modify it or anything if you have more important tasks to do.

Quote from chilston on 20.07.2024, 13:16I use the app with Carplay and also on my motorcycle every day. An option to activate the direction of travel would be very useful. Otherwise I will have to use Google Maps or Apple Map for my daily use which is not a good idea.

Quote from Guido on 20.07.2024, 18:27Yes. On every iPhone (8 and newer)
if you’re navigating on iPhone (no CarPlay), also tap the start ride button. Then go to navigation menu (big button menu) and select the ’map direction’ button. That will toggle you between north up and riding direction up (default).

Yes, this would be nice. Apple Maps always shows driving/moving direction. I'd like to see the Scenic map do the same thing when not recording or navigating.
