Large data usage despite downloaded maps

On my way to Scotland with all relevant maps downloaded for offline usage my phone still consumes about 1GB of download bandwidth per day for Scenic alone. How comes? I was expecting little to no usage of my mobile contingency?

Then I have a feature request: Issue a warning when someone switches on satellite/hybrid maps or even better make it optionally dependent on WiFi connection.

That’s a good idea. I’ll try to implement that for the next update.

As of the upcoming version, the satellite map cache will be excluded from backups. Offline maps are already excluded from backup. You can manage storage by removing offline maps. I don’t want to offer a way to clear the satellite map cache because (1) it will increase data usage (satellite map tiles need to be downloaded again), and (2) it would only be a temporary solution anyway… as soon as you start riding / visiting map areas, the satellite maps would be downloaded again and the cache would fill up again.

Quote from HighPeakRider on 04.06.2025, 11:42I think that is fine if you always ride in your local area.
However I'm going to tour Scotland and if I use satellite view its data stored on my iPhone that I'll never use again, I have no control over this other that delete the app and start again.

I understand. Let me see if I can add a "clear satellite cache" option. Not sure, but I'll check.
