Is the POI Feature Operational?
Quote from Marts on 23.02.2025, 20:16Today I am planning a ride. There is a spot that I want to stop at. It's in the middle of nowhere. I wanted to make a POI out of it.
I opened the POIs option and tried to create a POI group. I'm guessing that it is in there that I insert the POI?
If so, it's not working for me. See attached screen shot.
Then, when I went to exit the group it asked if I want to save. Each time I said "yes" it would not do it. Then when I selected "cancel" the app froze and I had to quit it and start again.
I'm doing this on a Macbook Air at present, not in the iOS app.

Quote from Guido on 24.02.2025, 09:24Hi @marts,
If you scroll down below the map, you will find the 'POI data' field. In there you need to enter the data for the POIs you want in this group. It needs to be in the exact format that the placeholder text is in (see screenshot). Typically you'll copy paste that from another source. Or, you import POI groups from waypoints in an imported GPX file.
Let me know if I misunderstood or if you have any other questions.
Best regards,
Guido

Quote from Marts on 24.02.2025, 17:57Thanks Guido. I'll have a play with it. Basically I want to place a POI of a spot. I'll try and get the co-ordinates out of Google Maps where I made a via from it after a lot of street viewing and so on.
It's a site where I had a crash a few years back and the next day a couple hit a police car head on at the same spot. There's a memorial there. I sometimes stop and reflect (the couple were friends of a friend - small world).

Quote from Guido on 24.02.2025, 18:11I'm sorry to hear about your friends and your crash. I hope you recovered fully.
For this case, where it's only very few locations, I'd recommend creating a locations folder and placing a location there. Then, make that folder visible in the layers panel (2nd button from top left in the main screen).
Adding a location to a folder is a lot easier. Simply long-press the map on that lcoation and tap the "save" button in the callout bubble. Then you can choose the folder to save the location in, change the name and description, etc.

Quote from Marts on 24.02.2025, 18:25Thanks Guido. Yeah, I'm fine. This happened back in 2015. The road is called The Alpine Way and is in North East Victoria, Australia and is hugely popular with motorcyclists.
It's a small world. The couple, whom I didn't know, were friends with a friend's son (yeah, so many degrees of separation here). The friend lives in Melbourne and these folks did too. This connection was made apparent after a social media post about the crash. The friend asked if I would be willing to talk to the family of the deceased which I did. They were trying to work out how it all happened.
It was a massive pothole right on the riding line heading into a corner. It took the road authorities years to fix it properly.
Anyway, I created the POI following your instructions and it's now in place. I added a "stop" to the route that we're doing next Saturday so we can slow or stop for a break.

Quote from Guido on 24.02.2025, 19:02So sad. 😞 Thank you for sharing this. Over the years I’ve heard about many crashes from users, had two (minor) injuries myself and even a very involved beta tester passing away due to head on collision with a deer. Always makes me rethink why I ride. Never decided to quit, but it’s always a wake up call that this is a high-risk hobby. And ride more carefully and risk averse.

Yep, motorcycling is inherently dangerous, I guess. You play the odds, hopefully in your favor.
Anyway, back on topic before the mods slap our wrists, I created a folder and marked that spot as a location. Will make it easier to pick the spot.
