iPhone battery drain

Scenic is draining my battery faster than I can charge it! iPhone 11 mounted on Quadlock with USB power supply, started off at 40% charge expecting it to increase during my ride. However the battery drained quickly and at around the 90 minute mark I needed to close Scenic and continue my ride without navigation.

Probably your USB port can only output 1 Amp (5 watt). You'll need at least 2 (10 watt).
To decrease Scenic battery usage, make sure you download the offline maps (Side menu > profile pic > offline maps), otherwise Scenic will have to download map data while on the go, which drains battery.

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me ❤️

Thanks for the quick reply Guido. My maps are already downloaded, as for the charger - this is what I'm using:

Where is this charger connected to on your bike? Directly to battery? If so, that should be sufficient. In that case something else must be going on. I did not have other reports about this high battery usage to be honest.

I had the same problem this summer. Also on QuadLock. I have been testing Scenic previously, and had no such drainage from the app. So I found a page on the Internet telling me 20 ways to save power on iPhone. I went through all of them, and afterwards I had no problems. I don’t know which one was the key one, but I don’t care. It worked😊

Yes, connected directly to the battery.

In light of johansw post, my suspicion is also that something else could be draining the battery although the battery report indicated Scenic as the biggest drain at 21%.

Here are the places I went looking. The bottom link for the youtube video is great.

On my first big trip with the Chigee AIO-5 Lite installed and using an iPhone 14 Pro Max, after a 5 hour ride (including stops), the iPhone's battery was down to 20 percent.

What I hadn't realised that the then-new Peak Design wireless charging mount wasn't charging the phone. In fact, the phone, when connected to a standard USB/Lightning charger wouldn't accept a charge. I had to reboot the phone to fix it.

Since then, it's worked fine. All day rides see the iPhone with a good charge at the end of it.

I wonder - would the carplay device that's being used affect how much drain there is on the phone battery. eg. a Chigee compared to a Carpuride or something?

There could be a difference. Some CarPlay units have a GPS receiver. If they do, then the iPhone won’t have to use its integrated GPS receiver which would save iPhone battery. For the rest I can’t think of anything that could make a big difference.

As far as I was aware the GPS in the phone is what's used in the navigator app. The Chigee does have its own GPS receiver (a wired module in my case) but that is only used for the GPS functions within Chigee's native display (speed, trip computer, ride data functions).

But in my case, battery usage is covered with the wireless Peak Design adapter that I use.
