Importing Routes vs Tracks
Quote from Stresspuppy on 31.03.2024, 06:29I have several GPX files to import. When I load them up and go to the import screen in the app, it shows me both a route and a track. How does Scenic handle these? Will both give me turn by turn directions if I use it to navigate?
When loaded, the route seems to have recalculated a fair amount and has a lot of stops in it but the track contains only waypoints and seems more accurate to the intended route, although there might be a few tweaks needed. Is this typically true? Which is better to use "out of the box"? A lot of these go through mountains and the last thing I want to do is get turned around and lost of course. 🙂
Thanks.

Quote from Stresspuppy on 31.03.2024, 07:48Thanks. After reading that, I took a look at the track. It has a couple of via points that are basically just go to a point and make a u-turn so I removed them. But all I see is the magenta line, no blue line to determine if I am following the right path. And the total mileage is a little more than the originally intended route the creator setup (I guess I'll have to investigate that a little more).
Also, is there a way to convert a track to a route so you get turn-by-turn? Some of these routes require some navigation through populated areas before getting out in the country so it would definitely be easier to have it tell me what to do rather than keep looking down to see if I am going in the right direction (without hitting something).

At the moment, this only shows if you are importing for the first time. It won't show if you edit the route afterwards.
I took a look at the track. It has a couple of via points that are basically just go to a point and make a u-turn so I removed them.
The via points are always on the blue track, so they must have been there for a reason. Perhaps Scenic (HERE maps) doesn't know there is a road to continue there. Or it thinks it's faster to turn around to get to the next via point. Try to change routing mode to "Short" to see if that helps.
And the total mileage is a little more than the originally intended route
This could be due to the via points mentioned above. Double check the route if it's not sending you back and forth as a stretch
Also, is there a way to convert a track to a route so you get turn-by-turn?
That's what the magenta route is trying to do, but for the reasons mentioned in the help article this is not always possible. The "save blue line as track" is meant as a backup solution if you can't get the magenta line to fit the blue line. If you save normall, it will save the magenta line as a route and you will get turn by turn. If you choose "save blue line as track" you will not get turn by turn.

Quote from Stresspuppy on 31.03.2024, 10:30Thank you Guido. That answers all my questions and I think it will get me where I need/want to be. Fortunately I have maps of the original routes so I can clean up anything that comes in askew and then save normally to get a route and turn by turn.
As always, thank you for the quick and very helpful responses.
