How to plan on highways only partially
Quote from windingroad38 on 12.01.2025, 15:08Hi,
I have a case, where I want to go onto a highway only for a part of the route. In suisse I want to avoid highways, but when crossing the border to germany I like to continue on the highway. For now I had to set a huge amount of vias to "help" the routing stick to the highway in germany.
Routing options are set as follows:
- mode and type: motorcycle, standard,
- roadtype adventure-highway step 1 on the range from 0-5
- ferries: full left (avoid)
- toll roads: full right (allow)
- avoid dirt roads: no
- avoid known closures: yes
Is there a trick wich does the magic? When I move the roadtype slider more to the right towards highway, it might happen, that the route goes onto highway in germany, but maybe also in suisse.
Instead of fixing this with (lots) of vias, wouldn't it be smarter to have markers, which marks parts of a route, where different routing options apply?

Quote from pe112 on 12.01.2025, 15:23AFAIK Scenic currently does not support using different options for individual sections of your route.
I read that you want to prefer and use highways in Germany. Then you should move the road type slider to the „highway“ side (right/5) and the „toll roads“ slider to the left („avoid“).
The first setting will prefer highways in general and the second one will avoid using them in Switzerland.
Maybe this helps with your plans. Safe travels!

Quote from johansw on 12.01.2025, 15:31You have to do as you have done with vias or create separate routes for Germany and Switzerland.
If you use vias and one route, I would let Scenic create an adventurous trip and force motoway with vias, not the orher way round. Takes less vias 😊

Thank you. For my actual case probably yes. But in general, I don't know. For example in austria there ist toll for highways, but there is additional toll on defined scenic routes. I didn't check this thorougly, but I might run into this, when trying to avoid highways in austria with this setting, but like to go on roads which have toll (which is not a highway toll)

two routes is no option for me in that case. You are right, adventurous trip with vias on highways is my workaround.
Thank you
