How to cancel oriantation lock?
Quote from Aging Bull on 15.07.2025, 01:12Hi folks,
While on a route and navigating... I accidentally tapped something on the screen that caused the map to stop automatically orientating towards my direction of travel. I tried pressing everything on the screen but nothing would get it to respond. I even tried exiting navigation and resuming. I eventually had to restart the app on my phone which was the only way I could get back to the default behaviour. But then of course, I lost my route (another topic). I have three questions:
- What did I inadventently do to cause this?
- Is there any way of disabling this functionality?
- What could I have done to revert to default behaviour?
Thanks in advance all!

Quote from Aging Bull on 15.07.2025, 08:12I think I explained badly. Normally in navigation mode the arrow representing your position is always pointing up and the map rotates when you turn. It happened again today that if you press something somehow it goes into a different mode where the arrow turns instead and the screen doesn’t rotate as you turn… so for example, if I’m going west, the arrow is pointing left.

Quote from Guido on 15.07.2025, 09:27On CarPlay, go to the navigation menu (to go there tap the dots button on the map in the bottom right or bottom left corner). There you will also find a map direction button. It might say “heading up” or “north up” depending on the state it’s in now.

Quote from MjK on 16.07.2025, 11:00Hi,
what happend to me, when I suddenly "lost" the 'heading up" mode : from CarPlay I switched to the iPhone to edit the route and then switched back onto CarPlay and suddenly I realized the orientation and sometimes the complete movement of the map was lost .. while the time, speed and other indicators still worked.
The reason was I forgot to exit the edit mode on the iPhone before switching back to CarPlay .. as soon I switched back to the phone exited the edit mode and back to CarPlay everything was back in perfect order ..
@guidomm Guido, a suggestion could be, at the moment you activate the black screen on the iPhone, always to exit the edit mode on the phone, that could help avoiding such situations

Thanks for reminding me of this @MjK.
Yes. This is on the list. Just haven't had time to implement this yet.

Quote from Aging Bull on 17.07.2025, 10:21I had this happen to me again today as discussed in this topic: https://scenic.app/forum/topic/wierd-behaviour-on-attempting-to-skip-stop/#postid-13389
I'm sure I wasn't in edit mode on the phone. I think the functionality is just buggy... switching between phone and carplayseems to be asking for trouble and is very risky.
