HERE maps as option
Quote from GeorgeB on 26.10.2024, 14:13Hi Guido,
Why not make HERE maps available as an option (as done by MyRouteApp)
One of the big benefits of using HERE maps was that imported routes were almost identical to Garmin.
A good map could be worth some extra.I really like the feature set from Scenic but with v4 there are to many minor and major bugs and this is hard to deal with especially while on the road.
Carplay integration is back in 4.03 but my last drive I had no turn indications, ETA and remaining km’s were not displayed.
Those items are just basic nav stuff and they make me worry about the path yet to travel to get back all previous features. The features that made Scenic just the very best available tool.
Kind regards.
George

Hi Guido,
I know you are doing the best you can, but I also have to agree with GeorgeB's comments.
In your link https://scenic.app/scenic-4-faqs/ you say that "HERE Maps, put me in an impossible situation" although you do not elaborate further on the "impossible situation".
I remain faithful to Scenic however, and I'm sure you will sort out the bugs before too long and restore it to its full glory, especially a full implementation of CarPlay.
Regards,
Wally.

I feel like adding my bit to this discussion and that bit is to support Guido in his decision.
I believe he explained the impossible situation precisely: monthly recurring cost (MRC) raise by 2500%. In my way of business that is called a not exactly standard way to terminate a contract by the provider. Doing it with a short notice period is called "unfair business practices" (there is even a law for that, but obviously it has limited applicability). While I am not aware what percentage of costs were incurred by the map provider, I believe any such MRC raise could cause inability to have an even budget. We operate a payment solutions company which includes various 3rd party providers many of which are crucial - e.g. if our cloud provider told us they are about to raise MRC by 2500%, we would definitely had to change such provider - not only because of the cost implication (imagine it is only 5% of total MRC, with such raise it would equal to almost 50%), but also you do not want to have a crucial provider acting unfair or lets say unpredictable.
The above is not subjective.
The following is subjective:
as someone who drives (not a bike) often off-road, I totally like the new map coverage - it has even paths which are only suitable for skilled bikers or brave off-roaders (I know them), yet you have the option to avoid them by clicking "avoid unpaved". I didn't have the opportunity to test it though, so time will tell if it also works 🙂
And naturally, like many of us, I am also unhappy with the missing features - e.g. for me without the past tracked rides layer and POI layers the app is missing the main advantage towards others. But I see (based on the constant updates) Guido and his team are making the best they can to repair bugs, add the loved features and maybe add also some new like the all time stats which I wished for long time ago.Andrej.
