GPS data

HI Guido! You releasing that new version or what ? I'm itching! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ย  Just kidding man !

I recently started looking into gpx files and learnt they are suitable for storing a lot more info than directions on a map. For example, gopro, dji, insta360 ... they store data in their respective mp4 video files, including the gps telemetry data; this data can then be exported into gpx files and imported back into apps like google earth studio and others.

When finishing a recorded ride in Scenic, we see the summary of the different speeds achieved in different sections of the ride; there is also info about elevation ... and god knows what else you could include. I was therefore expecting this info to be in the gpx file as well but to my surprise, it isn't.

Sorry for the long description ๐Ÿ˜€

Is there anyway you could have the app export a gpx file which includes telemetry information?

New version will be a little while longer ๐Ÿ™‚.

At the moment the <track> element in the exported GPX contains elevation data (see extract below). It doesn't contain speed data, though. The standard/original GPX file format (https://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1/#type_ptType) doesn't support that. Some software/applications deduce the speed from the coordinates and their timestamps.

To include speed directly in the GPX is only possible through GPX extensions. There are many GPX extensions though (garmin has their extensions, GoPro, TomTom, etc.) Perhaps in the future I will add support for some of the most used extensions, but at the moment only the basis standard/original GPX file format is used.

So, the elevation is there and speed can be deduced. It depends on the software/app where you import, if that actually use/read that data.

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me โค๏ธ
