Google Maps App for iOS now has "Speedo" and Erratic Readout.

Latest update of Google Maps app for iOS now incorporates a speedo on the display for Apple CarPlay.

Today I tested it. When you plan a route and start driving, the speedo takes a minute or so to appear. Or when not on a route with just the map displaying and following you, no speedo is displayed (just like Scenic).

I was on a flat, straight bit of highway on cruise control in the car and at a steady 110 km/h (by the car speedo). The app's speedo readout was jumping all over the place. Weather was fine, no overhanging trees, etc..

Maybe there were GPS signal issues. Dunno. Iphone 14 Pro Max was sitting in the console with a clear view of the sky through the windscreen.

I then opened scenic and planned another route. It too was doing it, but nowhere as bad as the Google Maps app. And this is the first time that I've seen it do this.

This post is probably just a FYI one about general GPS stuff, but comments are welcome, of course.

I don't know if the Maps app was still running in the background and hogging GPS receiver resources. I don't know how it all works, just guessing here.
