Give Guido a break!
Quote from BMWMark on 13.10.2024, 12:10I’m not a long time Scenic user, pretty much a Basecamp nerd been using Garmin Zumo’s. With the advent of all the usable CarPlay units I found Scenic as a friend was using it and he was able to use my Basecamp routes no problem. I started using it and found the route planner to be the best and only one I could use on a easily phone or my iPad to avoid having to take a Macbook on trips. I had tested it for about a month and was psyched to use it on a multi day trip Oct 4-8 on my Innovv N1Pro Carplay unit in place of my Garmin. I was excited to see a new version was coming out October 1 and was thinking even better features. Well, the absence of CarPlay use made for a quick change back to the Garmin (I always have backup Navigation as I do a lot of trip planning and group leading). It certainly was a bit of a disappointment and required some change of how I navigated back to the old ways.
I don’t know Guido at all and I am not some long time users of Scenic, but I have seen his response rate, his efforts to keep users updated and based upon how the previous program worked and how well reviewed and liked it was, I have no doubt that Scenic 4.x will be improved and problems fixed and full functionality back before too long. It is unfortunate that the program had to switch over and change quickly without full functionality and features but I am sure that much of the program had to be rewritten and it has been a lot of work.
I would say give Guido a break, I am sure he is doing all he can to get the program back to be top notch with features and function. I’m sure it helps him to know about problems and crashes and all, it likely will help him to fix errors, and make improvements. Many of the known issues and missing features were stated in FAQ’s and have been repeated. I would hope that anyone planning a “mission critical” trip has a backup plan that you can fall back to until everything is back to normal function.
I just would hope that users would give Guido some slack and give him support and praise for all the work he is doing and needs to do to get Scenic back to normal after such a big change in mapping providers, I am sure it’s no easy task.

You are absolutely right and I, for one, was wrong to propose a question that had already been answered.
I have been using Scenic for a few years now, and apart from being enthusiastic about the app, I have seen Guido's seriousness and helpfulness on many occasions, which are truly absolute. Good work Guido and thanks for your commitment (and patience!).

Quote from massi on 16.10.2024, 08:08I admire Guido for his patience with us, I would have been exploded several times when I were in his situation.;)
Yes, there are indeed some issues with the new version, but I think when these issues are eliminated, Scenic 4 will become a great piece of software for many different navigation scenarios!
A small note on the side, I have used Scenic for hiking and it worked without a problem, because of the more detailed maps of Scenic 4, I like it.:-)
So, Guido keep on the great work and to all others, be patient with Guido, like he is patient with us, ommmmmh.;)

Quote from KatyTrooper1463 on 16.10.2024, 14:44I tell people to go use REVER for a week and let me know what they think. Apart from a dedicated GPS unit (and even this its a stretch), Scenic is the best thing out there. I miss not having it on my rides right now. I used as my main navigation app in my car and on my bike using CARPLAY in both.
Guido, I just wish there were two or three, or even four of you to help. 🙂 Soon enough we will have a better working version. Appreciate your focus on quality.

Quote from tellec on 19.10.2024, 00:51Amen - since finding Scenic just a few months ago it’s completely changed navigation and ride planning on the bike. I’ve since done thousands of miles using it and weeks of riding, and have only come to love it even more. Like several of the folks above v4 is effectively unusable for me personally without CarPlay (and how I miss it terribly), but the new interface is gorgeous and even easier to use for route planning on an iPad.
Twenty years of working in software and I’ve lived the scramble Guido is dealing with now too many times (oh….partners). The new version looks like a major improvement, and bet Guido is doing his heroic best to restore the functionality we’ve come to rely on with the new mapping provider.
Thanks for all you do Guido - Scenic is an incredible accomplishment and I can’t wait to use it again!

Quote from Marts on 20.10.2024, 17:54I departed for Europe for a 4 week holiday last month. Got home on Saturday, connected the phone to the car and Scenic auto started as it does. However, a weird looking map and no controls. Aha, a Carplay bug. OK, better get onto the forum when I get home and see what the go is. (I used Google Maps to navigate my way out of Melbourne Airport (Australia) and across Melbourne to home).
Today I logged in. A pop-up informed me of all the things that are yet to be activated, thanks to HERE not playing nice and letting Guido transition in an orderly manner. Good one, HERE. Hope you folks are pleased with yourselves.
Then I find this thread which makes me sad. Guido is busting his arse to get Scenic back to its rightful place at the top of the motorcycle nav tree and people have to whinge and bitch about it.
All I can say, Guido, take your time, don't stress, ignore the "I want it now" brigade and finish Scenic at your pace.
I've looked at the app on the iPhone quickly. Looks good. I've yet to delve into any detail, though. Look forward to playing with it at some stage.

Quote from Sanfish on 20.10.2024, 20:40Glad to see someone bringing this up.
Just came back from a trip and while Scenic wasn't perfect, it didn't screw up anything with the trip. Before I left for trip, I was put on the BETA crew and Guido has been so fast, eager and determined to kill all the little bugs as we found them. I end up feeling guilty for not being able to work at finding more bugs because how he jumped at every chance.
He didn't create this problem but circumstances beyond his control forced him into Superman role. I certainly hope he is not deterred because I know how demanding some people who are not long-timers with Scenic can be. Truth be told, you will never please everyone and just focus... Most of us long time users never doubted.
I've been a Scenic lifer and glad to have helped when/where I could.
