Fast curvy round trip
Quote from nick123123 on 24.01.2024, 03:57Hi, I’ve noticed the round trip feature isn’t as good as the competition. Specifically when asking for a fast curvy round trip it appears to show many roads that are minor and not fast at all. In fact I often want to remove some parts (possible?) of the route because they are just there to make up the total distance. Not sure what the answer is tbh. Perhaps avoid minor roads and 30mph sections; or offer national speed limit selection .
UK based btw

you can also plan a round trip in the power planner and then edit it.
Cheers,
Guido

I used to have the same problem with the route taking me down narrow single track lanes which are abundant here in Wales. These lanes are probably selected because they have a 60 mph speed limit but it is rarely possible to reach this speed limit. The answer for me is to ensure that "avoid narrow roads" is selected when planning a route or round trip. Of course this doesn't help to avoid the 30mph sections or the hated 20mph sections we have in Wales
Hope this helps

Quote from PeteRT on 25.01.2024, 04:15I think routing algorithms can only do so much. For me I tend to leave the routing setting on 'Fast' and just guide the route with waypoints. I checkout roads using Goggle maps and street view. For me the best feature of Scenic is the Route Planner. One feature that would help is if there was a map overlay that coloured roads according to speed. Red for 20/30 mph, Amber 40/50, Green for 60+ mph. However this would not help the narrow goat tracks with a 60 mph limit. I feel your pain in Wales with the stupid 20 mph limits. Unfortunately here in the UK we are still obsessed with speed having a direct relationship to safety as opposed to better training and awareness.
