Error Importing Routes from Google Maps via Web App
Quote from Marts on 02.09.2025, 20:17Today I created a route in Google Maps to check for a ride that we're doing this week. It's not a long one but I wanted to check that I know where I'm going.
Anyway, Google Maps is quicker to open so I used that.
In the first screen shot there is a light blue route and a darker blue one. The dark blue route is the intended route. However, when I highlighted the URL and then imported it via the Web App it imported the light blue one.
This may be a Google Maps thing. Guido, can you help me to understand what is going on with this?
Thanks
Martin

Scenic always takes the "default" (first choice) route that Google Maps gives you. It doesn't matter if you click on an alternative to make it dark blue. It will still take the "default" (first choice) route.
To get around this:
- First, in Google Maps, click on the alternative route you want to import
- Then, still in Google Maps, add a "drag" point to that route (without changing the route). In other words, click and hold on the route and then drag it a little bit (making sure the route does not change). This will add a "drag" point, and the other route will disappear.
- Now you can copy-paste the link to Scenic. The drag point will become a via point in Scenic.

In the meantime I simply planned the ride in Scenic. And that blue route has caused issues in the past with routing doubling back (I reported it here some time ago). Looks like it's been fixed.
