Editing gpx to merge routes

Hi, I know that merging routes is low on the priority list, but I need it. I am the leader of a rider's group, and, thanks to Scenic, the "Old Route Wizzard". The rides that I design each week are a patchwork of routes already ridden, with some connection points in between.  I prepare the route with Scenic, and, when done, I export the resulting GPX, so the other riders may load it in their respective navigation app.

Eventually, I can export the individual GPX files s to BMW Connected Ride app, merge them in there, and export the resulting route but maybe someone in the group may help me. Guido says that routes can be merged fiddling with the gpx files...

My question to the group is:

With a text editor, may I copy whatever is between <trkseg> and </trkseg> of the second file  (aka all the  <trkpt...>) before the </trkseg> of the first file, or there is somewhere in the gpx format a record count or some kind of  integrity test.

and </trkseg>

if this works, the easiest way to do it is to  merge  the second file before the </trkseg> of the first file and deleting everyting before the first <trkpt> of the second file

This is something easy to do, even for non programmers (which are on a desperate need of this feature)

Thanks in advance.

BTW, I cannot upload .gpx nor .txt files but if someone wants to play with them, I have two short routes with the start point of one next to the end point of the other that I may send by email

Hi Carlos,

Yes, this is exactly how you would do it. There is not integrity check regarding the number of points, so it should work like you are describing.

Also, perhaps another way, have a look at https://gpx.studio. It’s a (free) online GPX editor, and has a route merge and split function. https://gpx.studio/help/toolbar/merge

Best regards,

Guido

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me ❤️
