Edit existing route on Mac
Quote from StuPastu on 10.07.2022, 07:48Hey there!
I'm really enjoying Scenic 3 so far, but there's one thing I can't figure out on the MacOS side. Is there any way to edit an existing route?
On iOS when a route is opened there is are additional UI elements, including an elevation chart and action buttons (e.g., Navigate, Share, Edit Points, etc) which don't appear when using Scenic 3 on Mac. Without those, I can't click/tap "Edit Points" to go into route editors/power planner. Is there currently a means of editing?
Thanks,
Stu

When you scroll down the buttons and chart becomes visible. When scrolling the pointer needs to NOT be on the map, otherwise a scroll will zoom in/out the map.

Quote from iSilentP on 18.07.2022, 20:44I understand. Thanks, Guido! So, yet another reason to upgrade to the Mx processor. I am a lifetime member. How would I get access to the native Mac app after Mx upgrade? Will there be additional cost? Is native Mac app full function as compared to the mobile app? Considering options...

Quote from Guido on 18.07.2022, 21:07It’s basically the same app, running in iPad mode. No extra cost. You’ll use your same scenic account. The same functionality. (Even navigation if your Mac would have a gps receiver 🙂)
Apple silicon Macs use very similar processors as we find in iPhones and iPads. That’s why, with very little effort, developers can make iPad apps run on Macs with Apple silicon. A lot of iPad apps run on Apple Silicon Macs.

Quote from iSilentP on 19.07.2022, 08:58Thanks for the info. So if I have an iPad Pro (not Mx), am I good to go? or do I need a new iPad with the Mx chip technology? Sorry for all these questions, I want to make my Scenic app experience the best it can be and on my iPhone XR the screen is a little too small for me to create routes, etc.

Quote from massi on 19.07.2022, 09:34I use scenic on an older iPad (2015 I think) and it works very well. even on this old hardware so I think it will run without any problems on an iPad Pro.

No worries. Yep, you'r good to go. Scenic 3 works on all iPhones, iPads and iPod touches that can run iOS14 and above. Like @massi mentioned, it can run on pretty 'old' devices, so your iPad Pro definitely can run it. But if you want to know all the devices, see here: https://iosref.com/ios

I have a MacBook M1 and I can't bring up the editing options. When I put my cursor next to the map, nothing happens because I'm in Finder. In System Preferences, the scroll bar is ALWAYS ON. When on the map, it does a ZOOM IN/OUT.
Question 2: I have the same editing issue on my iPad Pro M1 & my iPhone 12 Pro. On Mac ver: 3.11(8) and on IOS ver: 3.12. Can you help me on this?![]()

Quote from Guido on 21.07.2022, 17:56Update: Now that I think about it... you should probably read the answer to question 2 first 🙂
Q1: When you scroll, your mouse pointer needs to be outside of the map, but inside the Scenic window. So, in the red box:
When you scroll down like that, the map will also scroll up, and the buttons below it will become visible, including the 'Edit Points' button.
Q2: The editing issue... I'm not 100% sure I understand correctly, but to edit a route you need to go to your routes list by tapping the top left button with 3 lines in it (the hamburger button). That will open the side menu and show you a screen similar to the one in your first screenshot.
The one in you screenshot appears when you tap the 'where to' button. This is only to quickly select a route for navigation.
Hope this helps/explains. If not or if you have other questions please let me know. Happy to help.
Best regards and ride safe,
Guido

As you said in your answer: "You absolutely have to go through the MENU icon to be able to edit the map in IOS or Mac. Now IT WORKS!!! Thank you very much Guido!

Thanks, Guido, and others for your help.

Quote from Guido on 06.03.2024, 09:05I'm adding some scroll bars at the sides of the map for the next update. That should make it easier to scroll down when the map is too big for the lower buttons to show (typically when iPhone/iPad is in landscape mode and on Mac).

I wish I could give this post a thousand “likes”. It’s always frustrated me that it’s so awkward to get to the buttons at times.
