Deciphering "loop direction" in recorded rides
Quote from mattsz on 07.10.2022, 07:04Hi Guido, and all...I'm using the most recent version of Scenic (3.16) to date, on an iPhone SE.I recently took a round-trip ride; on some sections of road we traveled both ways, with some occasional side loops and excursions from the main route. If you look at the resulting recorded ride, it appears to be one line of travel with the occasional loops right in the middle.I’ve included a screenshot detailing a section of the ride, which hopefully makes it clear: you can see the start and end point are (nearly) the same, and some sections we rode out and back, but in the sections we split off in different directions between coming and going, I can’t tell by looking at the recorded ride which way we rode on each leg. Is there an easy way to decipher this information?

Quote from Guido on 07.10.2022, 08:14Hi Matt,
That’s a good question. Unfortunately I have to disappoint with the answer. At the moment you can not see travel direction.I’m working on migrating Scenic to the new HERE map framework during fall / winter, and will see if I can add arrows inside the track line to indicate direction of travel. I think that would resolve this shortcoming.Meanwhile, there is a way, but it’s not pretty. If you select the ride from your ride list you first end up in the screen that shows you some ride details, a small map, and below it, the speed (and elevation) chart. If you move your finger across the chart you will see the crosshair moving along the track on the map, indicating where the speed/elevation value was measured. As the speed chart x-axes is distance based, if you move your finger from left to right on the chart, you will see how the route was ridden.Hope this helps until I have this sorted.Best regards,Guido
Hi Matt,
Quote from mattsz on 07.10.2022, 08:25Thanks for the quick reply Guido! I emailed you about a week ago, while I was on an extended trip, but figured it got lost in the shuffle. I thought it would be better to discuss it here where the general public might see it - but I couldn't remember my password to log in from the road!
Anyway, the addition of arrows to the recorded rides track line would be welcome, but meanwhile, your "workaround" using the speed/elevation chart is smart and will work for my needs! Thanks again...

I already suspected you were the same Matt. I did answer your email, but it got bounced. Then I sent the same message through my personal email, and I didn’t get a bounce message back so I figured it got through.
Anyway, indeed this is better 🙂

Another workaround is to set at least 2 stops on your route.
The stops remain in the recorded rides and show you the direction directly.
Maybe this helps. Regards Mex

Thanks for the suggestion, that's another really good idea!
For what it's worth, though: in my case, I don't think it would have been possible. What I didn't share in my original post (I didn't think it was relevant) was that the ride in question wasn't planned in advance. I was visiting a friend, and he was leading me on a ride of some of his favorite local roads, choosing them spontaneously as we went along. Thus, the recorded ride was simply that... all I did was open Scenic and tap the "Start Ride" button to keep a record of the roads we took.
But for future planned routes, I'll definitely remember your suggestion!
