Cursor keys in Power Planner
Quote from Dae on 08.03.2024, 08:31I often edit routes using my MacBook. It would be great if the keyboard cursor keys could be used to pan around the map given the MacBooks don't have a touch screen.
I often check a route, either after import or after editing, scrolling around it from start to finish in order to be certain that there are no markers in weird places or unexpected deviations. Dragging around with the mouse is a bit of a pain.

I’m just in the middle of doing some route planning and noticed that the keys now work, albeit they are reversed (left is right and up is down)

Weird...just tried myself and seems OK here. Arrow left -> map moves to the left (i.e. I can see an area to the left that was falling of the left side of the screen). Arrow up -> map moves up.
Perhaps we have different expactatoins? Or is it really wrong on your Mac?
Cheers,
Guido

Quote from Dae on 03.05.2024, 13:42It must be expectation, as both me and my wife have the same behaviour on both of our MacBooks.
When looking at the map, if I press left I expect my view to move to the west. Similarly, pressing up I expect to see more of the north.
I’m guessing you press left and expect the map to move to the left, which is the same as moving your head to the right (you see more of the east)?
We’re expecting the up/down to work like a Word document, i.e. if you press down you move down the document and see more towards the end of the document (down moves your head south). The arrow keys move your head, not the map
Does that make sense?
Just in case it matters, we both noticed this during the route import process as we always import a route we plan in MRA and never create from scratch in Scenic.

Quote from Guido on 03.05.2024, 15:25Hi Dae,
I understand what you mean.
For me personally the current way feels more intuitive. It's inline with the touch pad (two finger swipe up is same as arrow up). In MS Word you move the cursor with the arrow buttons. The document moving up and down is a result of MS Word keeping the cursor on screen. Scenic doesn't have a cursor though.
Well, I guess my arguments don't really matter 🙂. In the end it's about what you expect and what feels intuitive to you. I'll add it to the feature request list to add a setting / switch to reverse the behaviour. If it's very easy, I'll add it immediately in the next update. If more complicated I will park it for later. More higher priority items on the list at the moment.
Cheers and regards,
Guido

Quote from Dae on 03.05.2024, 15:30Appreciate the quick response.
In terms of Scenic not having a cursor though, you could argue that’s the bullseye target in the middle of the screen that you use to add waypoints, so cursor key down would move that bullseye down the map. 🤣

I see that my browser is acting like you like it. And that feels intuitive to me too. Hmmm.I vaguely remember having an email exchange with someone about this, and then I changed it to what it is now. We definitely need a switch/setting for this, so that everyone is happy 🙂.
