Current speed (Tach) & day/night-mode auto-switching is stuck

Hi Guido

I was on a long car trip (1200km per direction) over christmas and I encountered two things that didn't seem right.

1)
The tach with my current speed got stuck and wouldn't show my real speed for 10 minutes or so until it worked again. It for example showed 10kph instead of my actual 140kph which lead to a very close zoom level even though the actual speed was high.

Also generally the current speed always fluctuates +-3kph even though I have cruise control enabled, so definately going at a steady speed. Not a big problem as long as I am not trying to calibrate my aftermarket speedometer in the bike with true GPS speed, but still more fluctuation than other apps.

2)
Since I did a 12 hours per day trip and its winter, I left in the dark and arrived in the dark. So Scenic should automatically switch from night mode to day mode and later in the evening back again from day mode to night mode. Unfortunately, the switch from day-mode to night-mode did not happen by itself! I had to go to iOS Settings and toggle the switch from 'automatic' to manual and back to automatic until it switched.
So its not only Scenic not switching but the whole phone system, which sounds like it is not a Scenic bug, but an iOS bug. The thing is, that iOS is only not changing modes correctly as long as Scenic is permanently running with an ongoing navigation active.

Hi David,

Strange about the tach getting stuck. Have not heard that before. Will check it out. Also the fluctuations. Might have something to do with the way Scenic determines average speeds. Cruise controls are not very precise though, wind and road inclinations will cause speed differences, so that might have something to do with it as well.

I'm aware of the light/dark mode switching. Indeed it's a iOS generic problem. It only switching after a considerable amount of time, or if you lock and unlock the phone it will also switch, so perhaps that's a reasonable workaround for the moment.

Cheers and happy holidays,
Guido

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me ❤️

Well at least the car tach stays at a completely stable and constant 140kph, so I guess the true speed also should be more or less stable. The +-3kph do not change at a slow and constant rate but with sudden spikes. I can take a screen-capture video tomorrow.

Thanks for the workaround, thats good to know!
