Current Speed/Speed Limit/Tach Question
Quote from olivizzle on 19.03.2022, 04:34Hey Guido! Now that i've moved to the netherlands and it's famous speed cameras and timed highways, I'm thinking about speed limits again. I'm not sure I understand what the visuals on the tach during navigation are supposed to mean. In some cases the speed indicated does not match the speed on my bike's speedo, and there's this green/red band that circles the indicated speed on Scenic that I'm not fully clear what it means. I assumed it would remain green and fill up as i approached the speed limit that the mapping system has noted for the segment of road i'm on, and then turn red if i had passed it, but i've been much slower than posted signage and it was still red.
would love some clarity on what i should be paying attention to in this view!

So, the big number in the center obviously is your current speed. There will be a small delay in this number because Scenic (all nav apps for that matter) determines speed by looking how far you traveled in the last second.
Bike speedometers typically work by looking at how fast the wheels spin. Also, Bike speedometers typically indicate a bit higher than actual speed.
Then, the rim/colored circle in the speedometer :
Yellow: Scenic doesn’t know the speed limit
Green: Scenic knows the speed limit and your speed is below it
Red: Scenic knows the speed limit and your speed is above it.
The speed limit is indicated by the little triangle. Obviously this is only to give you a rough idea. If you want to see exact speed limit you can use Settings > Navigation & Tracking > Show speed limit
If you want to get an alert when speeding, use Settings > Navigation & Tracking > Speed Warnings
Scenic 3 has a lot better speed limit data than Scenic 2, but it’s not perfect. It doesn’t know speed limit for every road and sometimes might even indicate the wrong speed limit. This will mostly be on the smaller roads and country side roads though, and depends a lot on your region in the world. Typically, North America and Western Europe speed data is very good.
If you notice an incorrect or missing speed limit, and you’d like to report it, you can do this directly to the Map Provider: https://scenic.app/help/roads-not-on-the-map-errors-in-the-map-data/
Hope this gives some more clarity
