Converting Scenic GPX file for use in InRoute

Hi All,

I've been using Scenic for a long time now and have a few friends that use InRoute.  While InRoute can read a .gpx file, if I try to share a .gpx file from Scenic they cannot open it.  Apparently after importing the file they get a message  "Route icon" that the error refers to is no longer at the top of the map in the current version of inRoute.  In In Route, if you go to the Route button and scroll down the list, you'll find a duplicate "Route End" and a duplicate "Route Start".  Please see attached below:

If you remove those two, the route will calculate correctly: tap the "Select" button, then tap those two duplicates, and use the "Actions" button to "Remove from both route and map".

Apparently, the reason this happens is that GPX file includes two separate routes (<rte> tags enclosing two routes in the file), and when inRoute encounters multiple routes in a GPX file it joins them together. The second route in the GPX file is the same Route Start and Route End that are at the beginning and end of the first route in the GPX file, so they just get appended to the end.
Any ideas/suggestions to help make this work other than asking those folks to switch to Scenic?
Thanks in advance

I figured it out.  If you delete the Start and Stop (duplicates) after line 13 below it will load in InRoute.

Any rationale for having these  duplicates?  Thanks

I don't believe the Route End and Route Start are duplicated in the GPX. (but to be 100% sure, could you sent the GPX to me through the 'Email Me' button at the bottom of the Help page?).

What Scenic does when exporting a GPX from a route, is indeed include two routes (one that works with Garmin devices and one that works better with other devices/programs/apps). On top of that it will include a track of the route. And, next to that, it will include waypoints for every stop during the route (including the Route start and the route End).

In my opinion InRoute shouldn't merge routes and other GPX elements without the user  having any say in that. It looks like the user has some influence in that through the route list from your screenshot though, so that's good.

I'm planning to add a feature to Scenic that will let the user choose what elements to include in the GPX, but it's going to be a while before that's ready though.

Cheers,
Guido

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me ❤️
