Confused when navigating route - seeing distracting road colours

Hi, I followed a route today but got confused a few times, especially in bright sunlight. Some side roads appeared in a similar color to my route, making navigation tricky. Below is a photo of my recorded route . What are these purple-highlighted side roads, and why are they marked that way? Are they trails? Can I make them more subtle. Can anyone advise?

At the moment, purple roads (or dashed purple) are unpaved roads. I’m working on the map customizer (ready in about 2-3 weeks) where you can customize the map style (colors, font size, label, what appears at what zoom level, etc.). That should help you. Also, you can change the route color already in Settings > Appearance & colors.
