Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel
Quote from Janky59 on 07.03.2025, 10:40Hi Guido - there is something strange with Scenic or Open Street on how it handles travel on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Below is a screenshot of a test route, a simple start and end from the south side to the north side. This combination bridge and tunnel complex has a toll. You can see I have Toll Roads allowed, and I have triple checked the start/stop points are on the proper sides of the highway, etc.
As I live where the blue dot is, I often travel across this bridge/tunnel complex. Next, continue to read below the image.
Now, if I create a north to south route, it allows the use of the complex. See below.
The north to south route is successful, but the software decides to route around the toll lanes, which one really can’t do, as much as I’d like that!
See below.
Note: After some experimenting on a south to north test route, if I place the start position after the south side toll complex, the route will go across the bridge/tunnel. There’s no road to bypass it, so the software makes a giant loop, even though Toll Roads are allowed in the settings.
Can you make a fix? Thanks for your help.

Quote from Guido on 07.03.2025, 10:47OK. It's most likely an issue with some map data. I have some family things today and in the weekend, but will have a look on Monday.
Have you tried the car routing? Same issue?

I just tried the car routing, it works!
It doesn’t avoid the south to north toll plaza and therefore create the giant loop.
For north to south routing, it doesn’t try the bypassing roads around the toll either.I exclusively use Scenic for motorcycle route creation so leave it on the motorbike setting. FWIW - Scenic 3.xx didn’t have this issue.
Regards.

I didn’t see anything that would prevent the motorcycle routing and allow the car routing, so I need to take a deeper look. It can be map data, or a configurable option in the motorcycle routing, or a fixed value in motorcycle routing ((which would be bad). I don’t have time to look in more detail now, but on Monday I do. Will report back.

Quote from Guido on 10.03.2025, 10:31I believe this is an issue in the Valhalla routing engine. I have filed an issue report. https://github.com/valhalla/valhalla/issues/5149
North to south works, because it finds a route passing the toll booths (which is a map data issue, not a routing engine issue).
Unfortunately, this might take a while to be resolved, as it first needs to be fixed by the Valhalla team, and then the new Valhalla version (with the fix) needs to be implemented by Scenic's map provider.
