CarPlay on Carpuride 5 inch Screen
Quote from HJD on 01.11.2024, 12:17Hi Guido
I know, you are working on improvements on CarPlay right now and I am looking forward to the update next week.
May be this is helpful as a further input, while you are working at it. Some people are complaining about the direction screen, being too big on the 7 inch Carpuride.
On the 5 inch Carpuride the directions on the top left corner are just right, not to big, not to small. Absolut top!!! I am very happy with it and it should not be any smaller.
But the scale, compass, altitude and speedo on the right are a little bit too small. So is the info at the bottom left.
So maybe this is dependent on the screen CarPlay is used with.
All the best.
Hans

I bring this up again.
I have been using Scenic for 5000 km in Britain & Korsika on the IPhone (Version 3.5) and switched to CarPlay just during the change to 4.0. I find the size of the different information bits top.
The latest version of CarPlay 4.05 is already working great for me. Great improvement. Thank you very much for all the work.
Scale, compass, altitude, speedo and especially the info at the bottom left is for me - compared to using Scenic on the IPhone - still to small. I find it a bit hard to read while on the bike.
Would it not be possible to make these information bits a little bigger. Driving directions are top.
Thanks.
Hans

Quote from Guido on 15.11.2024, 08:59The info at bottom left can not be made bigger. This is part of an Apple CarPlay template, that Apple obligates app developers to use. That's also why you see these elements appear in every navigation app on CarPlay. The scale, compass, speedometer could be made bigger theoretically, but I'm reluctant to do that as, on the smaller CarPlay screens, these elements already take up a big part of the screen, covering the map and route line itself.

Quote from HJD on 15.11.2024, 11:26Thank you for getting back to me. I understand as far as the template is concerned.
Scale, compass and speedometer I wanted just to be as big as on the IPhone itself, not bigger. My Carpuride and my IPhone 16 in landscape have more or less the same screen size. Nevertheless the scale, compass and speedometer are considerable smaller on the Carpuride Screen. I just thought, what works on the IPhone could work on Apple CarPlay in the same way without covering map and route itself to much.

Quote from Guido on 15.11.2024, 13:27I will make it a bit bigger for next update, but can't go to far. See picture with smaller CarPlay screen.
This depends on 2 things as well:
- The resolution of your CarPlay display
- Dynamic type font (It looks like you increased font size in your iOS Settings... this affects apps on your iPhone, but unfortunately not on CarPlay).

I can hear prompts, when the route pauses or restarts, etc. but no voice.
Prior to a turn my music will pause which I am assume is for the voice to play.
If I switch to Apple's GPS software everything works fine.
I love the Scenic App so I am hoping someone can help me.

Dave already tried changing below settings in Scenic. I’m hoping that there is a setting in the Carpuride somewhere to get this working for Dave.
Settings that can influence this are (try these in this order):- Voice prompt mode (try turning this off)- Voice output (try switching between ‘device default’ and ‘as phone call')- Voice volume (softer and normal use a different mode than louder and loudest.

Quote from Mex on 16.05.2025, 23:54Hi folks.
I dont use a carpuride but a chigee. Two days ago i had this problem in my car as well. No voice instructions while using carplay. Changing volume on the big button menu helped.
Music was muted but no instructions announced.
Sometimes it helps (on the bike with headset) to have the music channel just open. Means: open spotify, or apple music but pause music. Voice instructions can be heared.
Would be helpful to know:
What kind of headset? Firmware?
The order how phone/headset and carpuride are connected.
Pirority settings in the setup of the headset.
For e.g. i own a Cardo Packtalk Black.
Priority is:
Navigation, Intercom, Music.
Reason: microphone might be ON all time cause off wind noise, and you set priority of intercom high you might not hear navigation instructions.
This all is quite complex, so you need to test alot.

Quote from HJD on 18.05.2025, 05:30I am not using Carpuride with a headset while driving with the bike, but experienced the same problem when I was testing Scenic/Carpuride in the car. It was very difficult to get the voice instructions over the car speaker system. I guess it has something to do with the bluetooth connection.
What worked for me is:
let the Iphone keep the control of the voice channel for telephone, music and Scenic instructions. That means the Iphone sends only the video to the Carpuride and the Audio to the loudspeaker of the Iphone, Headset or wherever you want it. In that way the Audio works exactly the same way as for all those people who use their Iphone without Carplay.
The alternative set up is, to send both audio and video to the Carpuride and let the Carpuride send the Audio out again over a separate bluetooth connection with your headset. This might be the intended set up, but I could not get that to work stable.
Best regards
Hans

Quote from pe112 on 18.05.2025, 06:02Hi Dave (@newcommtech), hi Guido (@,guidomm),
one thing that is special with Carpuride units is that they offer two different audio routing modes:
If you are using only the CarPlay feature of the Carpuride unit and not its built in Media Player, Phone control etc. apps then you can connect your headset to the iPhone directly, switch to "Bluetooth Audio" mode on the Carpuride and thereby take the Carpuride out of the equation. Crisp audio quality comes as an additional benefit.
To check/switch the active mode select the "Audio Output" (or similar) app on the Carpuride Home screen:
Make sure that iPlay/Auto is selected:
Please note that in the screenshots the Bluetooth icon in the top icon bar shows "not connected".
That is fine and should be like that. Tap on the Bluetooth icon to make sure that only the CarPlay protocol is enabled while Audio and Phone (Handsfree) are not.
Remember: In "Bluetooth Audio" mode Audio and Phone are handled between the iPhone and the Headset without the Carpuride being involved.)
This was the stuff that is specific to Carpuride.
Myself I do not experience the problem you have and I cannot tell where it comes from.
But let me throw in some general and some reference information:There is a common pitfall one should be aware of:
The iPhone has separate volume controls for different sound paths like ring tones, media or voice.
The volume buttons (on the iPhone or on the BT headset) always control the volume of the currently active path with "ring tones" being the default while no other path is active.
If case you had Scenic configured to play voice instructions in "Voice" mode (as opposed to "Media" mode) and the volume for the "Voice" path was set to "very low" then this might be one possible cause for your problem.
Did you try to increase the volume exactly while you were expecting to hear voice output and got only silence? For your reference please find below my Audio related settings within Scenic.
As said before I cannot tell if any of these are related to your problem. But I can tell that for me the voice instruction work just fine.Best regards and good luck,
Martin

Quote from Middelfrangge on 18.05.2025, 13:50Hi,
I am using Carplay with carpuride on my bike, but due to the re-start of Carpuride and my Barbuttons when starting the engine, it takes too long till all connections running well again. Therefore I disconnected my headset (cardo packtalk) from Carpuride and use the connection to my phone instead. Now Carpuride does not get any voice commands from my phone and provides those to cardo packtalk. I do have a direct voice command now from phone to headset while carpuride just gets the screen from my phone - that works very good until now.

I made several adjustments on Friday evening and on my ride yesterday the voice started working.
Not sure which change I made caused it to start working but I am pleased that it’s now working.
One of the reasons I think Scenic is the best motorcycle GPS app is the support from Guido and the other users! Thanks again

Quote from sdk on 20.05.2025, 00:59Yes, the feature that carpuride can be used for visuals, but the intercom connects to the phone is incredible. Less delay, better sound quality, and you can walk away from the bike without intercom dropping (most useful while in a call or when recording audio).
One comment to @middelfrangge reg restarts: My carpuride restarted whenever I started the engine. But this was due to the usb adapter. I've now connected it directly (with a selfmade hella din adapter) and now it stays on.

I wired a simple toggle switch in the the positive feed of the Carpuride, so I can have it on without the bike running (my bike’s USB and accessory feeds are only active with the engine running) but also switch it off when I leave the bike.

Quote from Middelfrangge on 21.05.2025, 23:14I know the possibilities, but I need something that works automatically. If it works for you with a toggle its fine, I am afraid of forgetting it somewhen and then the battery is empty. BMW provides a so called cartool plug which only gets 12V wehen ignition is on and thats perfect, just a buffer is required to avoid the re-start of my Carpuride when starting the engine…..probably a capacitor would be sufficient.
