CarPlay 4.05 totally usable š
Quote from Cornworld on 11.11.2024, 12:14Hi Guido
After my previous critical post I think itās time for a compliment.
Thx for not responding in detail š and instead working your #%^* of to bring out this update. This one brought the app to the next level and it is now very usable as my main nav. Iāll do some more testing within the upcoming days, If I notice quirks that are not already mentioned Iāll share them.
1 question. Is it possible to work towards zooming the map in and out with the wonderwheel?
Again. Thank you for the hard work.

Quote from Guido on 11.11.2024, 13:25Thanks CornƩ,
In Scenic 3 indeed you could zoom in/out the map on CarPlay with the WunderLINQ (given that you kept iPhone screen ON too). I'm planning to add this back on Scenic 4 too. I assume you have a WunderLINQ? Otherwise it won't be possible. More info here: https://scenic.app/help/handlebar-controllers/
Cheers,
Guido

I use a chigee aio-5 for bmw, no Wunderlinq so I guess thatās a no go then? Is there a reason that it only works with that? The native bmw make life a ride app has this feature. Maybe a bmw restriction thing?

Quote from Guido on 11.11.2024, 13:43This this unit is specific for BMW, it's possible that this can be controlled by Wunderwheel. Can you operate CarPlay itself (switch to other apps, select On screen buttons, etc.) with the Wunderwheel? Also in non-BMW apps like Google Maps? Can you cycle through the on screen buttons in Scenic too?

Quote from Cornworld on 11.11.2024, 13:52Yes I can. All navigation through apps can be done with the wunderwheel as well a switching between apps, splitscreen etc. Zoom works with the wheel when using the dedicated buttons, itās just a bit unnatural while having a wheel you could use
The only thing that seems to be specific bound to the official app is zooming in and out the map. Also doesnāt work with Apple and google maps. Used that a lot when I had the native phone cradle.

Quote from Guido on 11.11.2024, 14:04Hmmm... I'm not sure if I can get Scenic to zoom in/out with the Wunderwheel in this case.
I'd need to get a signal when the wunderwheel is turned. Likely this can only be done if you know what signal to look for (like the BMW app would).

Quote from Cornworld on 11.11.2024, 14:09Well. If someday you have the time ā¦. š Wish I could help but I unfortunately canāt.
Or⦠(noob alert) Ā couldnāt the map itself act like a button? I mean somehow the app knows what Iām doing with the wheel because I can select menuās, go up and down etc. Maybe if the map would translate up as zoom in and down as zoom out?

Quote from Dae on 11.11.2024, 14:25The Chigee for BMW is just listening for the wheel movements on the LIN bus, and using that to control the highlighted user element in CarPlay, a bit like controlling a Windows PC using the TAB button and ENTER. The phone never receives the input from the wheel.
I have the non- BMW original version (AIO-5 Lite). I have the LIN adapter plugged into where the native GPS cradle would plugin Ā this gets me wheel control, but also the Chigee displays bike data like speed, tyre pressure etc.
The Honda Africa twin has a similar setup, albeit factory fit. Again, the control is between the CarPlay display and the bike, not the phone.

Quote from Dae on 11.11.2024, 14:39If it were possible, which Iām not sure it is, you would be intercepting up and down and changing it into perform a zoom. What would happen when you actually needed to move up and down to choose another menu option?

Quote from Cornworld on 11.11.2024, 14:43Maybe you could then select back and next? Like you do to navigate to another element? So zoom only would be active when you select the map?

Quote from Guido on 11.11.2024, 15:24If the BMW app can do it on CarPlay it's possible. Not sure how though. It would have to be reversed engineered, and I'm quite sure that BMW would not share their secrets.

Quote from Dae on 11.11.2024, 15:45The BMW app isnāt CarPlay. It either sits in their proprietary cable to allows control by the wheel, or if you have a bike with the large navigation screen then the phone is Bluetooth connected to the bike to allow the app to work via the wheel, displaying the actual navigation on the bikeās large screen display.

Quote from Cornworld on 11.11.2024, 15:49The bmw app only works in combination with there official cradle or there tft dash. It doesnāt support CarPlay. And I guess your assumption is correct, they wonāt share there secrets.
Who knows, maybe someday.
