You are not alone in missing it - I can’t use Scenic until the feature is brought back.

Quote from HyperMulti on 01.10.2024, 07:57It's really sad that it's at least a month out, forcing us to use/purchase other apps. For now, I haven't updated, and I'm still able to use the old version with my planned routes. However, I'm not going to rely on this working while I'm navigating unknown roads without cell service - time for a different app.
Also, with all the issues everyone is seeing, it's likely good that we're not relying on Scenic anyway. I'll give Scenic another try before my subscription renews, but Scenic will have to earn my business back.

Quote from jimbojsb on 01.10.2024, 08:02I too use Scenic primarily with CarPlay, but I'm not at all concerned. Guido has been extremely transparent and communicative about these changes and timelines, and I don't believe there is another app that is even a close second. I'm a premium forever user, and the net result of all this is going to be a better product that I look forward to enjoying. As the kids would say, "let him cook".

Quote from HighPeakRider on 01.10.2024, 08:15Its not riding weather in the UK so I guess little options to ride, I'll use Wase for speed cameras for now and lots of free CarPlay mapping options.
I'll work round the issues while Guido completes the developments, I'm not going to throw any toys out of the pram and will continue to support the app
while the issues are sorted, we were always going to have a few with this much development.

Quote from Dae on 01.10.2024, 08:19I am an avid Scenic user, that has participated in the betas for a while. I can therefore see both sides of the argument.
I agree that the product will be far better in the long run, but can also see why people would be upset if they are paying a monthly fee for a product that they can't currently use if, like me, they only use Scenic with CarPlay. I think this is made worse by the post that said CarPlay would be available when v4 went live today. I personally wasn't concerned until only a couple of days ago when I discovered that the date had slipped by a month. If I'd have had a trip planned for this week/month, rather than 2 weeks ago, I'd have had to hurriedly find a replacement app that could navigate all the routes that I'd spent hours meticulously planning. Nobody wants to be paying for a new app and discovering how it works on trip that's a couple of weeks long, especially if they're leading a group of riders.
I have recommended Scenic on a lot of forums recently, and people have signed up based on me telling them how good it was with CarPlay due to the customisation of the colour scheme (their existing apps, e.g. MRA until very recently, use default HERE colours that are very hard to see in sunlight). Now those people, some only 2 weeks after signing up based on my recommendation and their experience of v3.5, are finding that CarPlay is not there for a month and customisation of colours, which was the big sell for most of the people that moved, won't be there until March.
Please don't take this post the wrong way. I fully understand Guido's position and honestly think the product will become much better. He's damned if he doesn't (or didn't) change map provider as people keep reporting issues caused by HERE and out of his control, and damned for making the change as some of us now can't use the app for a month. That's a difficult position to be in that I fully sympathise with.
I suppose what I'm trying to say, in a long-winded way, is that everybody has their own experience and requirements. What may be a minor inconvenience for one person could be a massive issue for someone else. All we can do is give Guido the time he needs to sort the app out. This could be helped with him not having to repeatedly answer questions that he's already proactively answered on the FAQs.

Communication is good despite dates slipping, which they do. He didn't "pick" the date for the old provider to stop, so IMO, he was forced into releasing an app before it was really ready.
No disrespect in any way towards Guido - he's built the best app out there!! It'll take time to make it viable after this massive underlying change (map provider and ui rebuild). I'll give it another try once it has the things I originally paid for (& more).
Note: It's riding season for me (TX USA) & I view mapping software as "mission critical" so I must switch to another vendor. This involves transferring planned routes, rides that I want to do again, verifying routes, saving things offline, etc. The amount of effort this will take is pretty significant when you consider each provider does things differently...

I think this totally summarises the problem that most people have with the v4 release. It’s the time and effort to find a new app that can do everything you need, knowing full well that in about a month you’ll not need it anymore. It’s a big time investment, something that is a precious commodity these days. Hopefully people don’t decide to stick with the replacement once Scenic is back to its former glory.
It also highlights how good Scenic is (was) - the fact that finding a replacement that can do everything needed is so hard. I have had a lifetime Nav subscription for MRA for over a year, but still choose Scenic every time as it is (was) head and shoulders above the rest.

Quote from Burki968 on 01.10.2024, 09:49Great arguments here!
And yes, let's just let Guido work in peace for now, without asking irrelevant questions. I also asked a question that I could have saved myself.
So good luck, Guido! I'm sure you have a plan for the next steps. Don't let it drive you crazy, take it step by step.
I'm in the fortunate position that I don't really need the sat nav at the moment. And of course it's annoying for everyone who urgently needs this app. But Guido will probably make the quickest progress if we just let him do his thing for now. I think that's enough stress.
I'll hold off on asking questions for now and look forward to the upcoming updates!

Big Mistake. Should not have released 4.0 without carplay. I belong to a car club with over 1000 members and am part of the "Tour" Leads. we are finishing up with the 75th tour this year. The club has slowly quit using SCENIC because it was not reliable. Because it had carplay one could forgive the errors. I have to admit that Ride With GPS is spot on accurate, but does not have CarPlay. I have been campaigning for Scenic, because of CarPlay. Then you tease us with 4.0.......................bad idea releasing without carplay.
Luckily I still have 3.5 on my older phone, and while it has carplay, it is not as reliable as Ride With GPS.
I won't abandon your app, but why did you release 4.0 without carplay?
Keep up the good work..................................................otherwise.

Quote from Zoomer on 03.10.2024, 13:26We all miss car play. But anyone who reads the FAQ will (hopefully) understand that the map source contract ended on 01 Oct this year. So with no V4.0 update, there would have been nothing; I think it is clear that Guido worked very hard to get as much of the app functioning as he could.
I'm sure most of us can stumble by for a couple of weeks without going all 'I'm quitting SCENIC' on him.

Same boat as you brother. Live in Southeast Texas and we are coming into peak riding season weather wise. Started a well known weekend road-trip and didn't see the app show up in CarPlay. Big bummer that v4 would get released without this critical part. Just keep at beta until at least it's ready vs pushing an update. Best app I have used for navigation....ever. Period. Hope Scenic doesn't do this again. I am sticking with them because they make software that works. Hope they can get it done quickly, but without a lot of bugs.

Rever was the closest but compared to Scenic, it's pure garbage, clunky, and unreliable. Please keep doing what you are doing. Just dropping this here as encouragement to keep going. Loyal fan here that doesn't want to see this app go away because of frustration. I know there is a push to add more and more features. This app works well, but don't let the drive to add too many features come at the cost of functionality and most importantly, reliability.
Thanks again for the great motorcycle nav you have created. Many of us ride around on our routes we planned, enjoying the scenery and things we see, because of your great work. Looking forward to getting it all back together....thank you Sir!
