Altitude included in export.

I needs some help to see what I might be doing wrong or if I just don't know what's going on.

I exported two files on two different days a day apart, one had elevation information "</ele>" the other didn't. Both on my iPad, they where done from Scenic as Export GPX and saved to file.

Here is examples of the output:

Without:

<trkpt lat="36.280250" lon="-79.126872">
<time>2026-03-20T16:13:45.830Z</time>
</trkpt>
<trkpt lat="36.280372" lon="-79.126938">
<time>2026-03-20T16:13:46.830Z</time>

With:

<trkpt lat="35.961221" lon="-78.049285">
<ele>80</ele>
<time>2026-03-21T13:44:50.210Z</time>
</trkpt>
<trkpt lat="35.961272" lon="-78.049011">
<ele>80</ele>

Can someone shed some light on why one has altitude and the other doesn't?

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

The elevation is only downloaded when you enable the Elevation chart for that ride. You only have to do that once. After that, the elevation is saved with the ride and will be included in the export.

Cheers,

guido

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me ❤️

Guido, Thanks for the fast response as usual but I’m still I’m still confused (I’m blaming the vodka tonics). Wow/when do I enable elevation? I have done the same thing (as far as I remember) for each days ride with different results.

Go to “My Recorded Rides” and open up the ride. Scroll down to just below the map overview of the ride and click “charts”. Choose “elevation”

Thanks! I’ve seen that and never changed it but sometimes Elevation data would be exported and sometimes it would’t . I’ll make sure to check it now in the future.
