can you be a bit more precise? I am also not 100% happy with the current scenic carplay compared to what we had with 3.xx, but without giving details it will be difficult to get back. Guido is working hard and I think we returned to a 90% version already but just blaming will not help to recover or to get a 110% version.
Whats your major concern?

Quote from Marts on 15.01.2025, 16:47I bought Scenic to use on a CarPlay unit. I'd argue that it is a core function of the app, at least, for my use case, it is.
As it stands, Scenic is working fine via CarPlay. If it wasn't then I'd be unable to use the app.
This is my setup. A Chigee AIO-5 Lite mounted onto the V-Strom 1050XT's accessory bar. (Google Maps in the phone display is for illustration purposes, only).
Scenic is but one function that I use with regards to CarPlay but it's the most used one.

Just kidding... my personal point of view on the CarPlay thing:
A few years ago CarPlay would be a lot further down the list, but not anymore. More and more people are using Scenic in their car (with CarPlay) and more and more people are getting a 3rd party CarPlay system on their motorcycle.
So... what I did... I first made sure that core features were working on iPhone. Once that was done, I prioritized the still missing features (a.o. CarPlay) based on the amount of "unhappy emails" about a missing feature. CarPlay was on top of that list. So.. it's up and running now for 90%. Now... back to the other missing features: If you haven't seen it yet... here's an update on those: https://scenic.app/scenic-4-faqs/

Hey Guido.
Firstly, a low speed fall on a dirt track a few months back. I have the replacement indicator in the shed, just haven't gotten around to fixing it.
Secondly, I'm happy with Scenic overall. And I do know that CarPlay development is restricted to what Apple decides can be done with it.
I'll check out the latest FAQs.
Thanks
Martin

Quote from Lo100469 on 16.01.2025, 16:23One of the main reasons i choose Scenic is the CarPlay compatibility. My main travel bike has a native CarPlay screen and i have no intention to have my phone on the handlebar. And indeed i started using Scenic in the car too. I specifically searched for that feature before i bought the Scenic app.
I’m as many very happy with the way Guido has been dealing with the map supplier’s issue, but i disagree that CarPlay is out of scope, at least for me it is a key feature,
Guido, thanks again for the hard work!

Guido, are you using Scenic with Carplay on a bike ?
That might give you more insights than just getting complaints and requests. Just sayin.
I use scenic with a Carpuride on my 1300GS with the wonderwheel and on an Chigee on my RNine T.
What I really miss is a possibility to really quickly zoom in and out. But I understand Carplay places a lot of restrictions on the programmer...
All in all I have to say: the INITIAL 4 was a nightmare compared to 3.xx. 4.10 is already much much better.
Good work Guido.

Quote from tellec on 23.01.2025, 17:35Thanks all - definitely understand how CarPlay isn't critical for some legacy Scenic users, but frankly it's the primary reason I adopted Scenic (from Rever, MRA, HDRP, Kurviger, etc.) was specifically the CarPlay capability, which was - and is again becoming - fantastic.
For those not on the CarPlay bandwagon, it's not just a nice-to-have - it's a safety issue. Y'all may not have a problem having your phone attached to your bike, but having been separated from my bike and unable to call for help in the past, I always ride with my phone on my person. Guido and his team's efforts to make CarPlay a core part of Scenic differentiates the app in a crowded space, not to mention making it useful to a vastly larger (and non-riding) audience for whom integration with factory infotainment is a critical requirement. If that means more users and more revenue to continue developing a fantastic app that serves both CarPlay users and those who would rather run it directly on an iPhone, let alone the vast pool of Android users - I'm all for it.
@guidomm - thanks again for all you do, your responsiveness to feedback and requests from this passionate community, and your agility when the previous mapping provider put you in an impossible situation. We see how much you're scrambling to restore lost functionality, and will continue to champion your efforts to make the best routing tool for motorcyclists and adventurers of all types.

Quote from Zoomer on 31.01.2025, 19:41Totally agree @tellec. I use a Carpuride 702 on my Triumph Tiger. Carplay has been very easy to connect with Scenic. And as you say, if I come off the bike and it goes into one bush and I go into another, the phone is with me. Also, 'Hey Siri' works even when the phone is asleep, so with my Cardo I don't have to have the phone screen on all the time to use Siri, and the Carplay connection remains alive. Nice.

I can attest to this. With CarPlay active on a Chigee unit I got down to 20% of battery (iPhone 14 Pro Max) after about 5 hrs.
mine sits in a Peak Design wireless charging holder but for some reason it stopped charging about an hour into the ride. Don’t know why.

Quote from MjK on 02.02.2025, 12:56Solved the over heating / not charging issue by changing my MagSafe charger to a version using a cooling chip ..
I tested several of those offered on Amazon and the one delivering the promised 15w as well as having the best cooling effect was this one https://amzn.eu/d/3I5f4MW
since I had no longer any issues with operating on CarPlay for a full day even in the heat of the Italian sun

I've been using this system for years. Never been an issue insofar as heat goes.
It was around 18 degrees on the day in question, so, not hot. And being in the open it has plenty of cooling airflow around it.
I'm not sure why it did it, but I had to reboot the iPhone as it wouldn't charge on my wireless charger at home, either. Since then it's not been a problem.
And, I only mentioned this to highlight the battery life of the phone when CarPlay is active.

That appears to be a device for use in a car. I use a Peak Design system on the motorcycle. Overheating has never been an issue for me. I'm not sure if it what caused the iPhone to stop wireless charging on the last ride as it was a cool 18 degrees at the start of the day.
Looking back at it, I don't know when it stopped charging, but if I had to guess, given that it was down to 23% battery at 2:40pm when we got to our hotel, it would've been early. Possibly it didn't charge at all when I clipped it to the charger. I'm speculating here as I didn't pay attention to it when gearing up for the ride. I will do so in future in case there's some weird issue with the PD wireless charger.

Quote from Zoomer on 02.02.2025, 18:45I don't have a battery life problem with the Carpuride. Certainly I get much more than 5 hours, and I can always put the phone in the Quadlock for an hour and charge it if necessary. But once the Carplay connection is made, the phone screen can be turned off; the screen is, I think, the big power draw, so with the screen off, I would expect that a full day of riding would be easy.
Have I missed something here?

Quote from Lo100469 on 03.02.2025, 08:04I think the GPS on the phone is also using quite a lot of battery. I don't get 5hours on a iPhone 13 mini using CarPlay without charging the phone, i tried in the car for an hour and lost already 25% of battery. My bike requires a wired connection for CarPlay so i don't have a choice anyway. I always start with a full charge so that there is no heat from charging the phone in the summer and i never had any overheat situation even during the heat wave.

If you have a wired CarPlay connection then surely the phone must be charging via that connection. Mine does (in the car. On the bike it's wireless).
