4.12 CarPlay feedback
Quote from Lo100469 on 12.02.2025, 12:06hi Guido,
500kms today and the app is getting much better, i just had a couple of small issues, nothing too serious.
- i started my journey by selecting do not guide me to the start, but even after being on the purple track for 5kms i still had the go to route indication. I canceled the route and reloaded it with the same result. I had to reload it again but select guide me to start, then skipped starting point as all was well
- light and dark modes are still a miss, but i can now force dark map if i select dark mode in the CarPlay setting. Waze adjusts automatically to dark so i don’t see why Scenic could not do the same. I would like to have an icon like 2D/3D to go light/dark/auto.
- zoom is a bit strange, it stays on 200m if i choose turn or speed based, and on manual it still shows sometimes 1km sometimes 500m even if i don’t change the level so it not really fully manual
But appart from that, all worked really well today, we are getting there, thanks
Laurent

Quote from Guido on 12.02.2025, 12:13Thank Laurent... I'll have a look at these issues asap. CarPlay is pretty finicky with overriding the CarPlay system appearance. I'll first point my attention to getting this fixed following the CarPlay appearance. After that I can see if I can add a button to override this.

Quote from massi on 12.02.2025, 15:31We had a 290km tour today, the 4.12 version works much better than the 4.11 with Carplay.
But I had the issue, that the distance to the destination isn't right, although the distance was only about 85km, Scenic shows about 189km.

Quote from Guido on 12.02.2025, 15:33Yes...I've had more reports. Already found the cause + fix. Will release new version early next week.
For what it's worth...DTA and ETA increases with almost every turn, but it doesn't effect the navigation instructions.

Quote from Middelfrangge on 14.02.2025, 01:57Hi Guido,
I love the new carplay, but recogniced one missing information on the screen. The navigation on the phone shows distance and an arrow for the next turn ans below a smaller arrow and distance whats next. Thats very helpful if the next turn ist very close. That feature is missing in Carplay - is that on your list? Would be great
Thanks

Quote from massi on 15.02.2025, 00:38Hi,
it seems that the zoom mechanism does not work as expected.
The two automatic zoom modes always show the nearest zoom in routing mode.
Manual zoom works, but sometimes if I zoom out, it does not follow the position arrow any more. So I have to end Scenic and start it again. But then I‘m again in nearest zoom.
Don‘t know if this is only on Carplay, because on our trip I can‘t use the phone directly.

Hi Guido, I got a small window to get out today and attempted, via CarPlay with 4.13, to track my route. I was specifically trying to evaluate the zoom bugs you mentioned where fixed. Now perhaps it is just me, but I cannot see a difference in behavior (at least when doing a track ride). With Turn Zoom or Speed based zoom it always goes to 500ft, no matter my speed (slow or quick). Manual continues to be the only method (when tracking) that allows me to get a comfortable height on the map.
Thoughts?
Thanks man...
Mike

Quote from Guido on 24.02.2025, 09:35@clarkml72. Hi Mike... can you check your Zoom Customization settings in Settings > Finetuning? These are used for speed-based zoom and also turn based zoom to some extent. If you are unsure, use the "reset" button to reset it to the defaults.
@highpeakrider... I thought they were buildings showing, but buildings are disabled in hybrid mode, and in satellite mode no map elements should show at all. If you could make a picture next time that would be helpful indeed.

Quote from Guido on 24.02.2025, 12:49Hmmm... can't pinpoint exactly what these elements are and can't find an icon that looks like this. Could you perhaps give me a GPS coordinate close to the area in the screenshot? To do that, open Scenic, and long tap on the map. In the callout bubble, chose "Copy Coordinates" and copy the DEC coordinates.

Quote from Marts on 02.03.2025, 22:32Question: today I had to drive to somewhere, about 45 minutes away. When I arrived I forgot to end navigation (and to save it if necessary). So, til I got back to the car and plugged the phone back in to activate CarPlay, it tracked me whereever I was walking. Later back at the car, when I plugged the phone back in it asked me about resuming navigation even though I was at the destination.
Then, on the way home I set it to navigate to home which it started doing. I stopped briefly to get a coffee. When I got back in the car and plugged it in, it popped up a message about resuming navigation which I accepted.
I then noticed that during the pause in driving and with the phone disconnected from the car, the app continued to track where I was walking.
I thought, shouldn't Scenic have paused nav (and tracking) when I stopped and disconnected the phone from CarPlay? I then said to myself, "self, ask Guido about this...".
So, what's the go here?

Quote from Guido on 03.03.2025, 06:33When Scenic doesn’t detect movement for 2 minutes, it pauses the ride. When paused, the ride auto-resumes if you get more than 100 meters away from the location where the ride was paused.
You can turn on and off auto-resume and auto-pause in the panel where you stop and (manually) pause the ride.CarPlay has nothing to do with this. It still works the same with CarPlay (only you can’t manually pause on CarPlay).
An inaccurate GPS signal (like when you are inside) can cause auto-pause not to engage, as the ‘jumping’ GPS signal can be interpreted as movement.

Quote from Marts on 07.03.2025, 18:31Just got the latest update. Today we're driving down to the Big Smoke to visit the kids. I'll be able to test the latest version including the "destination reached" alert.
The other day I forgot to stop navigation and for 3 days with Scenic running in the background it tracked my every movement. It was hilarous to look at on the map once I stopped and saved it all.
Check out the attached screen shot of my movements that Scenic tracked... Haha..

Quote from Marts on 08.03.2025, 17:14Another Carplay feedback. This is merely for my info.
Have a look at the attached photo of the Carplay screen and how it represents roundabouts and the direction to go through it.
It has the number 2, which means straight ahead as it's the second exit. I only noticed this yesterday. Other nav apps actually show an exit arrow, left, straight ahead, right or whatever. Is this a Scenic thing, a map thing or something that CarPlay does?
Thanks.
Oh, the alert about destination reached worked, too.

Quote from Guido on 08.03.2025, 17:54It’s a Scenic (and Waze also does this) thing. The default roundabout icon always shows the number “side streets” of the roundabout evenly divided on the circle and turned out to be confusing. Imagine a roundabout with strait and right (no left).

A roundabout near me has 5 exits. I wonder how they handle that, or how the rider/driver does if unfamiliar with it and going by the navigator's instructions.

Had this issue with the roundabouts in France, last september.
Here map told me to leave 3rd exit, there was am small road enetering the roundabout coming from am parking ground.
Should i count it as well or not? I didnt so i left at the wrong exit. An arrow or a graphic could be helpful to show the direction you need to go.
Of course i am able to count, but does OSM count the same way?

A good example - I can imagine coming upon it and trying, on the fly, to figure out how many exits there really are, and which ones "count" and which ones don't...

Quote from Guido on 09.03.2025, 07:20That’s quite a difficult one. Typically I’ve noticed that OSM counts just about any road that connects with the roundabout.
For complicated roundabouts like this one I would definitely also check the route line on the map itself. (If you are not navigating by sound only of course).

I often just hit the road and at some point I want to know how far it is back home and at what time I will make it.
When on Carplay I can click the screen and see nothing. But if I turn off the Carplay and touch the screen I get the option to enter the destination on the left. Then turn the carplay back on and find my way home 😉
Am I messing up or is the functionality different on the Carplay.

I have an issue when using CarPlay and trying to follow a Track. The Track simply doesn't come up on the Carpuride I'm using for CarPlay . The POI are there and I can see them but no track showed. I've tried to change the color of the Track but still with no change.
Of course the track is there and I can follow it if I use the iPhone but not reflecting on the CarPlay. It's pretty strange because I use that last year on a trip off road to Greece and was working ok back then (maybe before changing the map provider?).
Any clue how to solve the issue? I had to use Osmand to show the track on CarPlay...
I'm running on 4.18 Version on IOS 18.5
